Metallic Rogue Ep 1
Pros: Decent animation. The Bones E team coming off the heels of the polarizing Eureka Hi Evolution films has of course the Muraki-Kakita team handling effects and action. Chiyoko Ueno does a fine job to give the designs some life, and also excel director Hori’s boards when it comes to character interactions, her other KyoAni colleague Shinpei Sawa shows up too. The world and background art is decently structured and futuristic, and the OP song is a banger. Was not expecting a new jack swing throwback in 2024. Also the VA for Rogue is the same VA for Rikka from Gridman so that’s a plus
Cons: Nobody right now feels entirely established and it feels like a blank slate, pilot esque episode. I kind of get the conflict for now, but I seriously wonder how they’re going to make this interesting, as I am left with more questions than answers. Some of the music I thought was really bad, especially in the cathedral with cheap midi strings. I also want the show to have a little more polish on the compositing, everything looks fairly samey (save for a few shots where they mess with the lens focus, but it wasn’t anything particularly dynamic), and I’m expecting more in the following episodes
For now I’ll give the E studio the benefit of the doubt since this is their first TV anime series. Hori has a pretty meh track record (Super Crooks I dropped, and Carole and Tuesday was so dull) so we will see how this goes. If the political allegories become too hamfisted, and these characters don’t develop beyond what they are I might just drop. It sucks cause there are a lot of vets here to celebrate studio’s 25th Anniversary
6.3/10
I get the praise behind the episode due to it being throwback classic looking Bones, but I’m not buying it just yet. Also Yutapon is boarding the next episode..yippee

!https://youtu.be/oo9HKGhmbZI"Shoshimin follows Jogoro Kobato (Shuuichi Umeda), a boy with great deduction skills, and Yuki Osanai (Hina Youmiya), a girl with sharp perception and strong initiative. Both yearn for an ordinary life, the former due to bitter experiences and the latter because of past failures. Alas for them, their high school seems to be a hotbed for mysterious cases and misfortune."
they won't give hyouka a sequel so they just said f*** it we'll make the same show again
