if the actual anime looks like 3/4 as good as the OP this might be the most stacked season ever

I read that it in fact does not look that good
Also I think this is another anime we have to wait for fans subs for?

you just ruined my day
the little bit of blue archive's story i played was fun so i was hoping the anime would actually have good production value

I think that production value went into Sentai Daishikkaku instead
I made an account during their anniversay event but never played past the part where I was given free pulls lmao, I should probably pick it back up at some point

aoty contenders
girls band cry - nice visual stuff here. the wide shot of the MC standing in the station drives home the feeling of how small and insignificant she is now that she is out of the countryside and she is just one person among millions in the big city. the dimming around the edges of the screen when the MC picks up the phone to talk to her family conveys the bad relationship she has with them before a single word is said. the scene on the bridge where the contrast in their personalities are shown by the headlights of the cars under momoka being a firey red and the headlights of the cars under nina being a reserved blue. my bar for good visual direction is to ask myself if i were to watch the scene muted with no subtitles, did the scene successfully convey information such as emotions, character dynamics, etc. GBC passed this bar easily. also promising start to its writing with the motif of the middle finger and how its meaning evolved over the course of the episode
jellyfish - takeshita finally gets his shot at an anime original and he delivers. just so much little stuff that works, such as interspersing scenes of random skaters during a conversation between two MCs which helps make the setting feel more alive since we get a glimpse of other activities happening nearby that other people are engaging in. the scene on the bridge with the cuts between kano, yoru's obscured face, images of yoru's past trauma, and yoru's clenching hand getting faster and faster at the same time as yoru's talking speed increasing as she desperately tries to provide reasons to decline kano's offer was brilliant (also great attention to detail by takeshita as he could have used any image of yoru's past trauma here but he specifically chose the image of yoru using her hand to hide her name on a piece of art work that her friends were making fun of, which maintains cohesion with the present image of yoru's hand clenching the railing in distress). passed the visual direction bar
hibike s3 - theres nothing to talk about here. kyoani has the best working conditions and most consistent high-quality production in the industry. they're what every studio in the industry should aspire to be.

good premieres
konosuba s3 - the first episode has aired yet but i dont need to watch it. konosuba with no major staff changes. next.
shumatsu train - its mizushima. either you've watched enough anime and you're excited to watch his stuff because you know that regardless of whether it ends up being good or bad, at the very least you're gonna see a relatively fun and unique concept, or you havent watched enough anime and you have no idea who he is.
sentai daishikkaku - i only picked this up because the trailer had a couple decent looking shots but i dont recall seeing anything that looked good in the first episode so maybe i was on d**** when i watched the trailer. ill stick around because its interesting on a conceptual level though (also suzukiri is wife)

decent enough
astro note - the first ep was a little tame considering its premise. i guess they could go with a more reserved found family theme here but based off the directors history im expecting (and hoping) the show gets progressively crazier
blue archive - the characters are just as charming as ever but the production just doesnt look good. really disappointing because if it looked remotely like the OP it goes into aoty contenders. please get a real team for future seasons

footnotes
7th prince - i see no value here outside of sakuga fights but ive already sat through jjk so i might as well do the same for this
yuru camp s3 - idk its just more yuru camp. the characters arent really characters so there really isnt much of a foundation for them to take the character development route this season which, other than re-contextualizing its narrative themes (lol), is the only real thing that would be interesting. you cant really have 3 seasons of the exact same thing happening over and over again.

still to watch
kaiju 8 - its a shounen but unlike undead unluck nobody i know has told me the writing is good so this probably just caps out as a good premiere/decent enough show for a fight scene sakuga watch based off the trailer i saw
Vincent chansard blessing One Piece again
he was just celebrating recieving his VISA for Japan too
didn't know anything about yozakura family but that first ep was actually pretty cool. seems like a fun premise and there was some funny moments in there
Vincent chansard blessing One Piece again
he was just celebrating recieving his VISA for Japan too
this is vintage Disney resembling
Kaiju according to @hayabusa is just “PG-13 AOT”, so meh. I will only partially watch cause I like Nishio’s designs.
