I haven't watched it in years.
From what I remember Rei fused with lilith taking her role with 3rd impact happening.
My interpretation of the ending is more literal with the impact directly linked with Shinji and his mind. Him being in the unit 01 and Rei being his mom gave him the luck to be the one to decide on humanity fared. Shinji compartmentalizing his emotions in the show is what tipped the scale for the movie
What website is y'all go to for manga these days?
All of them depending on what I'm trying to read. Mangadex is my majority source
See you in the retirement home in 3 years kat
Nah see you at the Revue Starlight concerts

Thanks for this. That makes sense.
This anime is so damn complex itās hard to believe someone thought all this up. Especially being in the time it was made like⦠woah.
I understand all the reverence for it now, and now I see the parallels that new/gen anime have with this. Thereās a ton.

Some context if you want to watch the rebuild movies next. This EoE movie is the director creating the ending in a headspace full of anger and depression at the world.
The first two movies are kinda like recaps, but the 3rd and 4th are where the series split in the timeline.
@Tranquility Urobuchi ranked?
Near the top because most stuff he does is interesting in concept
But also near the bottom because most of the time his character writing is ass and they are just plot devices that sometimes have personalities

It was certainly a bleak ending, I actually donāt know which one I prefer more. I thought EoE definitely had an abrupt ending but it was sad that Shinji even in the end wasā¦. Unchanged.
Oh s*** thereās more?
Iāll prolly watch this weekend.
Question the guy angel synonymous to Rei, what was his deal? Was he Shinjiās gay alien lover or something what was up with that lol

I think if you watch the rebuilds it answers your questions vs watching those episodes again. He's the answer to the lack of love and care Shinji experiences in his life.
But story wise he was sent by seele to start s***, but he decided shinji (humanity) was worth saving

Tbh, I personally don't find the ending of EoE to be necessarily bleak. Bc after instrumentality is rejected by Shinji, humanity is given the chance to return to individual form (if they have the will to do so). Shinji chooses to exist as an individual, even if it means facing pain and loneliness. He chooses to confront reality and in the process shows personal growth. The final scene with Asuka is symbolic of 'starting over' - but in a desolate and uncertain world. I find it an hopeful ending, all things considered - bc even tho suffering is an inherent part of existence, life and connection still hold value.
But yeah, it's a masterpiece

I love this interpretation of it. You are right, if anything I am glad Shinji made a decision. I actually love the ambiguous nature of Evangelion. Such a great watch even with the odd moments at times. Very very well made, Iām a fan.
i wanna watch something like bakaramon

Yeah, the whole thing has an otherworldly, larger-than-life quality that no other show has matched (at least, thatās how it feels to me).
The manga is also v good, though it stands apart from the anime with some distinct character arcs and plot points.

Oh I gotta read the manga then. And honestly, this show has so many parallels that if I wouldāve seen this before many other shows I wouldāve thought it was sort/of a copy of this. Very original, unique, and great.
