so shounen are basically anime mostly with superpowers and adventure/fantasy elements made to appeal to young male teens

genre is more or less irrelevant. its anything that is aimed at teenage boys

western usage of shounen and japanese usage of shounen are inherently different tho

when someone online says shounen, josei or seinen I get what they mean but you right I bet the actual meaning gets lost in translation just off cultural differences or misnformation

Yeah I don't personally believe in Shounen being such a big umbrella. At least when I started watching anime (late 2000s, like 2006/7), I learned Shounen as those big battle shows.

I understand where people are coming from (labelling everything under JUMP as Shounen), I just don't think it embodies what Shounen is in the English community. Like I would not call Death Note a Shounen, that's a story with a more mature vibe and I wouldn't group it in the same genre with Naruto/One Piece/Bleach/DBZ.

most people that grew up with naruto, bleach or one piece as ''beginner anime'' are now in their early to late 20s still enjoying the same s*** they did 10 yrs ago....

and personally speaking, I've found mature vibes in all of those big 3-ish shows.....I mean, that's why they have the appeal they do, cause they have compelling content all ages can enjoy

imagine demon slayer being a live action tv show in america....it'd be some edgy conjuring action horror or worse.

And all of the anime mentioned above have crazy rewatch value while the ''mature'' s*** like elfen lied, gantz, future diary and all the late 2000s ''edgy'' stuff, they have no entertaining value once that last episode is done and the show sinks in

Shonen is a target, nothing more. Doesnt matter how the west uses it; dragon ball, sakamoto days, devilman, Gto are all shonen but they're not the same genre

This is the worst take I have ever seen on the internet. Bleach is utter mid and a garbage show if all aspects considered. If you have fully watched Gintama and you don't grasp the show that is a personal issue and nothing with regard to the show.
