Bro I literally avoided all Mecha anime until this one. Whatever I saw I hated it before. Now I love a good Mecha show. This while story and journey blew me away. Absolute classic.

The change was so jarring I had to look it up, and according to someone online:

"the series was going to be on a rotation of animation teams and episode 4 was the first from a different team. This was received so badly that the idea was cancelled and the first team did the rest of the series"

Gurren 4 was different because they brought on a guest director for a one-off episode and gave him complete freedom to do whatever the f*** he wanted. Gurren Lagann would have looked like dog s*** if the studio decided to dump a ton of new work onto 1 animation team in the middle of an airing series without warning.
