Naruto was introduced as a child in the manga while guys like Superman and Ironman were full blown adults by their first appearance

Yeah I was agreeing with you with how these characters were set up.

Black Lagoon - Heavily influenced by 90s Hollywood action movies.

Tiger and Bunny - Heavily influenced by western superhero comics. Set in America.

Baccano - Set in prohibition-era New York.

Gunslinger Girl - Set in Italy.

Gankutsuou - Based on the classic French novel by Alexandre Dumas

Psycho-Pass - Heavily influenced by western sci-fi authors Philip K. D*** and George Orwell.

BECK - Influenced by American Rock and Roll culture. One of the characters is modeled after Flea, the bassist for Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

    thats nitpicking bro

but there's a reason the most prestigious manga awards are the tezuka awards

if we look at it like you just did then even one piece bit the pirate concept and 90% of vampire manga set in europe/france did the same too

It's not the setting, it's the form of storytelling....there's a reason no stoner anime/manga exist and no anime/manga ever tried to capitalize on the west's view of sexualization but instead kept to themselves

while on the other hand the west is biting off even K-Drama and Anime aesthetics (like im doing with my avi and banner).

F***ing Jojo owes a lot to western influence

JoJo went from egypt, to Florida, to every single continent you can think off since it's been ongoing since the 80s and it's writter chose more realistic locations where in series like one piece its easy to just create islands

How is that nitpicking now? Setting is just as important when writing a story.

It's literally not a wrong fact that both sides of the world influence each other. Obviously not a majority influence, but it's there.

I'm not saying it's good or bad....it just happens

dont forget the eastern parts of the world have a longer history and more ''weird'' traditions which if im being honest to someone like me would look more alienated and outside of my spectrum than america is.

let's not forget the western world lived off the sweat of ''others'' for a very long time.....

    but thats off topic

Both eastern and western media have been influenced by eachother, its facts there's no way to argue against this. But being influenced by something doesnt make the medium or its individual works less valuable

    true true

    BUT

the west's formula of origin stories like Hulk's had to evolve to catch up to deeper s*** like luffy's

old school western origin stories = this accident happened so he got powers

old school eastern origin stories = ken was pierced in his chest through a secret martial art and now he's on the hunt in a dystopian world

    see what i mean??

Ehhh i think that comes down to preferences. I for example think luffy is far from being the best representive of character writing in manga, but if you do that's fine. Also, its hard to compare comic books and manga like ive said, because the way manga and comics are published are different. In comics usually series go through different artists and writers, like spiderman and batman have different interpretations and styles, while one piece has been serializing for more than 20 years with oda being the main writer and artist. Im not an expert on western comics tho so i may not be entirely correct. Still, manga and comics both have their strenghts and they play into them, there's no reason to downplay one to bring up the other, both have great stories that should be read and artists that should be discovered and supported

it's definitely preferences so I can only speak for myself...I was hitting the comic book store way before I even knew what manga are but from what I've personaly seen there's more effort in manga. OP fans actually stan shanks and zoro but nobody stans superman's father and friends...it's more self-centered....and we didnt even bring seinen into the discussion....does a character like griffith get the same amount of love from people that for example the boys' homelander gets?

Anyways, excuse me if i went off the rails with this convo

Well that to me has to do with the fact manga/anime now has become the cool thing to like on the internet. You definitely see marvel/dc characters being stanned because of the movies and tv series, but for other comics its harder cause i find them to be more niche than manga nowadays.
Another thing i've noted that might not be the truth but just a feeling ive had is that generally manga are more character focused whereas western stories tend to focus more on the plot, so in that case it would explain why you see people hyping up more anime characters. Of course tho in this case in both mediums the best stories excel in both plot and characters.

Dont need to worry about derailing, its not a big deal

kishimoto introduced shinobi, the concept of jutsu and the concept of an innocent kid tapping into a beast's power plus the anime provided us with some of the best hand to hand combat choreography in anime.

maybe he did all of this coincidentally and his era helped him too but still, he crafted one of the most influential manga/anime

hxh and togashi are indeed superior tho and if i'd come up with the no ending argument, YYH would destroy that argument cause even though One Piece is my fav shounen, YuYu is the best overall (yes, better than hxh imo)

I think YYH is the best until after the Dark Tournament and then Togashi’s quality starts to falter in terms of both his art and his storywriting. Felt like he got bored writing that s*** in the middle of Sensui

Kishimoto does deserve credit for introducing shinobi, jutsu, ect, but the REALLY good parts of his story feel like a reskin of the HxH beginning story (aside from Pain, that was pretty good on him). The rest of his writing is kinda mid/bad and it felt like by the end he’d forgotten about so many things and was just trying to write so he could end in a perfectly round 700 chapters

  • Naruto part 1 is a perfect shounen idc what anyone says

  • Naruto vs Sasuke at the final valley made me cry as a kid
