Anyone got any recommendations for what to watch next? I'm thinking Bleach, Monster or just finally starting Naruto.
Monster.
Yo pretty random but do you guys see anime fandom as a sort of transitory , fleeting experience? I’m in my early 20s and it feels like before I know it I’ll be a dust head , gradually becoming disconnected from anime culture and the young characters who resonate(d) with me to the point that I lose interest in the medium altogether as life starts to get in the way more and more
Obviously nobody gets to be young forever. But anime has been such a big part of my life for basically my entire life... I can’t imagine growing old and disconnected from the scene. The thought sickens me tbh
Idk jus late night existential quarantined thoughts 🤷‍♂️

Can't see that happening at all. I didn't lose interest in video games, music, and movies so I doubt that's gonna happen with anime. It's not like there's anything unique about anime that would make it a temporary fad for me compared to other mediums.

I overthink and romanticize things a lot so that’s definitely part of it. I hate the idea of becoming the elder statesmen lol.. or feeling like I’m some old chaperone at a high school age party whenever I interact with the community. However I do accept these as realities of life that everyone goes through and likely no one thinks about as much as I do or in the way I do
Just finished I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. For some reason my sprinklers in my room just came on
........ I don’t have sprinklers
I’m like 9 episodes in. It’s pretty good
What is this anime’s genre huh?
I just discovered the Out of Touch Thursdays twitter account and now I want to watch Lucky Star and, inevitably, everything by Kyoto Animation. I still haven't finished K-On!! or After Story but I'm getting there

We're in an era of anime where watching it is a million times easier than in the past. The amount of anime oldheads today is lower because back then people were relying on fansubs and physical copies to ship over from Japan which made anime super niche. Now its easier to access so the amount of people who get into it early and stick with it as they grow up will probably increase (thats my theory anyways). Plus it also kinda depends on what part of the community you roll with, some types of shows will obviously skew toward an older audience while others won't.

I feel like a big difference between the mediums you listed and mainstream anime is that a lot of mainstream anime is associated with high school age protagonists
Certain niches of anime are pretty much confined to that setting and age group of characters.
I'm also in early 20s and to me thats not manga/anime I look for. Honestly a lot of those kind of projects give me a sort of melancholic feel especially if I'm going through a rougher/uncertain path irl. They feel really escapist to me as a result and I try to avoid them.
Know its probably unrelated to what the guy you quoted meant but still feel its relevant in relation to age vs approach to anime
Just started Monster
it sucks that when i started watching this i couldnt find a hq version anywhere, part of why i dropped it and am now midway (read manga years ago tho)
if you arent already watching a hq version, the full series is on youtube in really good quality
Done with devilman Crybaby, don't know whether to watch monster, code geass or re/zero first

Nah it’s totally related. I was watching kaguya s2 premier and feeling kinda strange...these highschool rom coms don’t resonate w me like they used to even tho I love that show a lot
That sorta what started my whole train of existential thoughts lol
