While Made in Abyss does have some questionable aspects to it (mostly with Pruska's look in the movie even though she is never once actually sexual in any way), for the most part, I think it presents a pretty natural awkwardness for kids to think about their sexuality and its done in a way to make them feel more real as characters. Honestly, Moonrise Kingdom from Wes Anderson is a lot more blatantly "pedophilic" than anime like MiA or Erased (which legit I have no idea what is even lewd about this show)
honestly its even weirder for people to psychoanalyze child sexuality like that in art. Like, I don't see the majority of people watching anime like these going "omg these kids are so hot"
I personally think its more disturbing to see violent shows where much of the fanbase is screaming for somebody to get brutally killed because that really shows how manipulative writing can make people think such disturbing thoughts. With most of these anime, its just harmless lighthearted entertainment and then you got someone going "NO, this will make you a pedophile!' even though most people watching these shows don't even think anything like that. Like I have heard people talk endlessly about Made In Abyss's gorgeous animation, music, the horror elements, the mystery, the extremely interesting world. I don't hear anybody talking about how they find one of these characters sexually attractive lmao.
alot of people can watch MT and find him to be detestable as well. He always gets consequences for his actions and it seems like a pretty clear criticism of MMO/video game culture when it comes to infantilizing and objectifying women considering he sees every character as not a real human being and does the s*** he does.
I will say this and its a fact: I am seeing WAY more people watch AOT and say that they 100% agree with everything Eren is doing and that the Marleyans all deserve to die than I am seeing anyone who is watching MT defending the MC's degenerate behavior.
It's like watching Game of Thrones. I like Cercei, although she's very evil, but if she molested children I wouldn't like her at all. I actually think her loving his kids is something that makes her likable.
You have a movie like Cuties that was cancelled for sexualizing kids, despite supposedly being a critique against it, in a way it romanticizes sexualizing kids in an empowering way, which is pedo bait with an excuse. That's why people hated it.
Anime kids aren't real kids so there's a distinction. But I understand why it makes people feel uncomfortable for the same reason. You can have a character in an anime that is pure evil, but likable, and even they can cross the line. It's all about how the anime presents it.
Of course twitter is gatekeeping anime
We already have it bad, if twitter dumbasses make it even more elitist its not helping

Genuine chills during this scene just from how well the animator did. WEP's character acting is insane and I'm having trouble thinking of a show that comes anywhere close to it.
WEP 6: The way it transitioned from Ai in the school confidently telling the girl "I'm ready for the final boss", to her shocked face upon seeing her teacher in her apartment was amazing.

No one wants to say they find the kids in Made In Abyss attractive but the sexual innuendos there (for example the running joke about the little girl getting n*ked) are obvious and I heard that the manga is even more sexual, and they're just little kids they both look like 8. So while it's a good anime in many ways I think the loli bait is a big turn off.
Erased wasn't lewd just the little romance the guy had towards the little girl felt weird. They didn't expand on that thankfully.

I do think the anime downplays the sexual aspects of the manga and for good reason. But at least in the anime, I can't say her being naked is ever presented in a sexual light. Its awkward to see and I think thats the point of it. It has a contrast to it with how these kids go through such horrifying and painful ordeals during their journey, yet when it comes to their own body, they feel so at unease and I think its really just there to highlight that they are just kids and the s*** they're going through really has heavy stakes.
Also, I feel like the way they are drawn is just pushing so hard against the "moe" aesthetic in anime, that I can't even call it lolibait. Like you look at the drawings of the little girls in NGNL versus MiA and its night and day.

Holy s*** just finished Happiness @rano @Psychodrama
Gonna stare at my ceiling now
donβt get why ppl complained at the ending being underwhelming. Some things happen to end with a new beginning if that makes sense. Ozaki accepts his situation and lives on with Nora. He still drinks blood without killing. Ending felt complete
what do you like
naruto, dbz, deathnote, mob psycho, vinland saga, demon slayer, jujutsu kaisen, promised neverland, gantz, berserk, tower of god are my favorites

Glad you liked it!
The ending was fine imo, but I can understand why a lot of people disliked it lmao.
The same mangaka made blood on the tracks, a story that is very promising so far, but it shares the same kind of dread happiness has, so you might not want to start that rn.
