I watched only the very popular mechas:

Neon Genesis Evangelion
FLCL
Code Geass
Gurren Lagann
Darling In the Franxx

My opinion of all of them is that the mecha part is never the interesting part. That's why I don't think I'll be into Gundam, where I think it's all about mecha and mecha lore (or am I wrong?)

One I was interested in was Eureka Seven. Didn't watch it yet because it's long but apparently the characters are good.

Mecha is only really good where it serves as foil for the characters. Like in Evangelion or FLCL. The battles are supposed to represent actual character themes and progression. Even then I prefer one on one fights.

Well yeah I would say Gundamn is that to Naruto where it is an important part then.

I would say that like in FLCL it's a story device that is meant purely as a metaphor

Or in Evangelion it's important to the plot in the first half and then takes a back seat to introduce the character's psych and the bigger picture of the plot

It's a tool you can use in the story as much as anything else, I'm just not too into giant robots and I haven't liked robots when I was a kid, so they're not as cool to me as one on one fights

Bro darling in the franxx was wild. I actually ended up really loving it. I gets hate, but for me their pivot away from making this all about mecha was the best part about the series.

There were more problems with it than the ending, it was really only good for like 7 episodes.

The animation was cool, though. Just too many holes in the writing combined with a Trigger-level asspull where it didn't belong ruined it for me

I agree with it being a fun watch.

It just disappointed me in many ways, I remember my ex that I was dating at the time got mad at me because I didn't wanna finish that s***, I started dreading it each week
