Highschool of the Dead is an loser fantasy
It's a pretty straight forward anime most of the time, you know it has zombies, you know it has titties and you know it has a ridiculous plot and surprisingly good action scenes.
Now, any harem or ecchi by nature is some sort of a male fantasy. As a viewer you want to insert yourself as the self insert main character and have a harem of hot girls surrounding you as a form of escapism. It's a power fantasy of being able to pick and choose which girl to end up with, knowing they're all semi-interested in you. Especially when it's ecchi and it plays into a sexual fantasy.
But what sets HOTD apart is the character Saeko who is by far the fan favorite and the "best girl" of the anime. She's a kendo expert meaning she's strong and athletic and can fight zombies, beautiful and "mature". She's the voice of reason and can keep it cool throughout most of the apocalypse.
What's weird about her though is her often remarks, "I am a woman", "you're a man", "a woman should please the man", "a man should be strong", which are not only weird things for a teenager (who isn't in Game of Thrones lol) to say, but also feel really conservative, and consistently remind you of how a man and a woman "should act".
This all brings an extra layer to the fantasy, a layer of misogyny or unrealistic expectations from women. Obviously a harem is always unrealistic, and none of the girls actually behaves like a normal human, but this kind of character painted as an "ideal woman" by the writing and by the fans really gives me loser vibes.
I'm finally caught up on Tokyo Revengers!
It's really cool. Some of the plot directions are obvious but I still enjoy the character beats and the (late) coming of age story for Takemitchy.
I just have a few questions:
I don't really understand Naoto's part in all of this. Why is he aware that Takemitchy changed the future? Shouldn't only Takemitchy be aware of what happened since the future changed? At which point in the second future does Naoto know that Takemitchy was sent to the past? Plot-hole-ish situation.
This one will most likely be answered, but I'm not sure why they tried to kill Hina twice. She just seems to be a teacher and doesn't seem to be involved with Tomha in a decade. Is it just because she was Takemitchy's girlfriend at age 15? Because if so, then why was she killed in the first place? In the original plot line, Mikey didn't even know Takemitchy so Kisaki wouldn't have a reason to kill his past girlfriend. It makes more sense if it was personal vendetta against Naoto because she's his sister and he's trying to investigate current Tomha.
Most recent episode (14) was kinda underwhelming lmaooo
My theory is There’s multiple people like Naoto that offer chrono-support to key people like Takemitchy, Tetta & dare I say even Mikey. Those 3 all going back in time & changing the past simultaneously on top of each other (constantly) without even realizing it. Neither person knows the others are also doing the same thing, maybe Tetta & Mikey have suspicions, but Takemitchy is clueless. Only real mystery is, who are these chrono-trigger ass ppl that can send them back in time?
It’s a bit convoluted to follow with the time stuff, because that’s not what the main point of this anime (Mf tryna be the Nolan of anime when we already got Isayama filling that role). It’s a beautifully made Yankhee/Delinquent anime
speaking of one piece, im looking at my read list now and realizing i never actually finished any of the big 3 shonen despite having read >1000 chapters of it collectively, the pacing just got to be so ass once you catch up on the final few arcs. have no desire to finish em either since im like >100 chapters off and i could just start and finish better manga in that amount of time.
someone shoulda told me as a kid i coulda been reading s*** like slam dunk or FMA 10 times over instead of starting series ill never finish
I actually disagree with you:
I don't think anyone other than Takemitchy can go back in time, and Naoto proboaly has some sort of "reading steiner" which means he remembers what happens in the alternative universes once Takemitchy comes back.
The plot hole is that Takemitchy should be in a coma state once he's in the past, and this is supposed to be the motive of why he can't stay there too much. I asked on MAL and fans basically told me to ignore the time travel lore and try to enjoy the gang plot.

True true actually, I only started watching TR for the delinquent stuff
was craving it back then
The time stuff again, super iffy & convoluted. Not even sure the writer will be able to pull it off, as even Isayama had trouble closing off AOT because of it.

I wish I liked One Piece as a kid instead I was like "anime is weird!" so I didn't watch it now look at me

The time travel stuff is very contrived. Takemitchy is also a really dumb character. I mostly enjoy Mikey and Draken, we haven't seen much of him yet but I think I'll like Kisaki.
I understand your theory about why Mikey could be a time traveler. It's because he hinted that he suspects that Takemitchy knows too much. However, so does his girlfriend who notices there's a mature and an immature Takemitchy. So I think it might just be intuition.
About Tetta being a time traveler, that is more believable. I'll keep that in mind and try to notice weird things about him. But I don't think it's coincidental that the girlfriend keeps getting killed.

i feel u on that, taste is a hell of a thing so it is what it is. the thing is i actually did like one piece as a kid, i remember really digging alabasta arc in particular, but i guess a combination of reasons like real life stuff, skypiea arc pacing, and my usual manga site going down (shoutout onemanga iykyk) just led to it fading out of my life
i do have some curiosity in re-experiencing one piece because i dont think ill dislike it, there are just so many incredible manga <300 chapters out there that i want to read first.

I read One Piece at a very boring time in my life. Now I'm a student so I haven't read it over a year. But reading it was really fun.
As for other anime, I feel like it's too late for me to like something like Naruto or Dragon Ball now. I'm too critical and don't have enough patience to be a fan of these two. But One Piece is different. It's really funny and colorful and I love the characters. Made me feel like a kid reading it.
If I got into it when I was younger I would probably be a bigger fan.

Takemitchy literally WOAT protagonist
how you surrounded by all these gangsters but can’t stop crying after SAYING YOU’LL STOP CRYING 5 F***ING TIMES IN 5 DIFFERENT EPISODES TO SOME EPIC MUSIC.
Naruto is still one of the best watches. Truly one of the greatest anime’s ever conceived.
Naruto: Real ninja s***, shuriken & kunais, some jutsu’s that require chakra (magic). Introduces characters.
Naruto Shippuden (after time skip): Still real ninja s***, but heavy jutsu’s that are more magical & “fairy-tail”-esque. Story is F***ING INCREDIBLE THOUGH.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations: Basically Dragon Ball Z.

Idk, I watched OG Naruto and it was mostly good, had some weak parts, and then I tried watching Naruto Shippuden and it was just too much for me. A lot of fluff. But apparently I stopped watching right before the best arc (Pain).
Oh and I didn't watch any of the filler. A lot of fans told me they do and I don't know how they're so boring.

takemichi aint built for the streets like that
i havent read the manga so idk if he actually gets better
but i would assume with more time he will stop being a crybaby, i didnt expect him to drastically change this early

naruto shippuden is incredible until kishimoto cashes out and ruins naruto's underdog story and says sike on madara being the final boss
@DMWR One Piece is the toughest series to get into. If I had not grow up with it I doubt I'd manage to watch even 100 eps.....I cant see how anyone in his right mind would sit down and be like ''I'll watch an ongoing series with over 900 episodes'' lol
unpopular opinion but shippuden >>> og naruto
s*** had pain, akatsuki, the fated battle between brothers, jiraiya, tobi, rinnegans
it's goated imo
