Teenagers have always loved dark, edgy, gory stuff. Chainsaw Man's excessive focus on the two aspects you mentioned is exactly what makes it a shounen.

Anime and manga aimed at adult audiences tend to be less like Chainsaw Man and more like Non Non Biyori.

When i think of action shonen i think more of censored stuff / stuff like Naruto, OP, My Hero etc
And seinen stuff like Monster
