Would you recommend an anime with a bad ending?
Depends on a variety of factors. The person I'm recommending it to, if I thought everything building up to the ending was worth it to experience (even if the ending sucks).
If the anime was just okay AND the ending sucks no way.
Would you recommend an anime with a bad ending?
as long as the ending doesnt actively ruin what came before it and there's enough good to balance it out then yeah i could possibly still recommend it

franx and death note both have bad endings but as long as the journey is worth it and u can enjoy it then yes
its weird to s*** on 4 hours of fun just cause of a bad conclusion
i bet when one piece ends ppl will s*** on it disregarding all the years of fun just like a lot of ppl did with aot

Tbf I don't think any reasonable fans were s***ting on AOT as a whole. The measured take is that yes, Isayama wrote a s***ty ending, but AOT will still go down as one of the greats.
I know a lot of people said this in the KTT2 thread, though, so I get why you have that sentiment fresh in your mind.

yeah that thread gave me this impression plus the fact that people made a fan ending that was well received

Death Note is my favorite anime I'd say it has a great ending (it fell off a bit during the third act but the ending is worth it)
The anime I had in mind is Soul Eater, on one hand it's all about the journey and the world and I really liked watching it, but the ending was ridiculously bad so I never think of it as one of my favs really

soul eater aint one of my favs either but there were parts of it i enjoyed and anime with a bad ending offer more than anime with a trash first 3 episodes even if the ending is good
i wont argue about death note, I can understand why it'd be anyone's fav anime and I bet u can understand why I didnt like the ending.

Eva has one of the most polarizing endings in anime yet its regarded as a masterpiece by almost everyone myself included
Im really curious about aot ending after seeing all the discussion around it, heard lots of contrasting opinions on it

I don't think the ending ruins it
It's a good example

Yeah the thing to me is when you keep such a consistent high quality throughout the story and become so iconic the ending doesnt even matter all that much at that point. Like berserk will never end or if it does it will never be what the author truly wanted but i think we can all agree it is and will be a masterpiece. Even vagabond and hxh if we never get an ending they're still great works. Maybe that's just me tho, i tend to value the journey more than the destinato especially if that journey was great and memorable
Of course there are anime like code geass where the ending elevates the entire thing but thats an added quality, few manga/anime ive experienced have had a devilman tier ending

it's not just you
manye of us itt share the same feelings bout the series you just mentioned

crybaby ending broke me and it made me feel despair when it was all done
code geass was a show where 90% of its charm was suspense and twists so the ending could not be anything less

I'm not going to spoil anything but the problem of aot fans since s1 all the way to the latest season is that people look for characters or ideals they can place themselves and beliefs in
if you can appreciate aot as a well written show supported through the hard work of everyone from isayama to the studios making it with apathy then its a 10/10 masterpiece
