Deadman Wonderland
โ โ - frustratingly bad
You watch Deadman Wonderland and realize, like the hidden Block G, there's a good anime hidden in there. There are great concepts introduced, all thrown out the window very quickly to introduce new plot points, and it's this cycle until the anime ends.
The premise is, a normal boy called Ganta is on trial for the murder of his classmates, for being the lone survivor. Even though they were all killed by a mysterious Red Man, no one believes him and there's a fake video out to frame him.
This is enough for him to be given a death sentence and sent to Deadman Wonderland, a prison where prisoners play life threatening games in front of a live audience, for points which in Ganta's case, can buy his life more time.
This is a crazy premise. It's dark and frustrating to see Ganta put into a situation like this, but it's also super exciting. You can do so many interesting and creative things in a prison setting like this. Unfortunately this is not explored and he only gets to play one game before moving on to the next plot point.
Ganta is supposed to have a coming of age process where he turns from a coward to a hero. He never goes through character development, just cries a little, fights weakly, he is saved by his friends and that happens like 5 times.
Shiro, by far the most interesting character in the anime, is a cute, childish, mysterious girl who lives in the prison and no one knows why she's there. She's a childhood friend of Ganta who remembers nothing about the prison and is also REVEALED TO BE THE RED MAN to my surprise none of this is explored either just left on a cliffhanger???
What we're left with is a lot of background characters who come and go. For the craziest prisoners and prison guards in the craziest prison in the world, they are awfully boring, have boring background stories, so it leaves no impact when a dramatic event happens. I won't remember any of them in a week and the anime spends too much time, or too little time, on these characters.
So basically Deadman Wonderland is an edgy 8 year old kid with ADHD. It moves incoherently from one idea to another, developing and exploring nothing, occasionally showing gore or torture but it's all meaningless when you stop caring about the world and it's not ridiculous enough to be "so bad it's good".
And yes the ending was very bad lol. Not only nothing was resolved but you also get the feeling that nothing happened throughout the whole anime.
That being said the OP is banger:

I think for some people this is the case but there were most definitely many parts in the last chapter that contradicted things said/done/ect in the 50 chapters leading up to it. That's why I took issue with it.
Given, like I said, while I thought it was a bad ending, I don't think it detracts from AOT being an all time great show. Like 99% of that s*** was great, I'm not gonna trash it off the last chapter.
fair enough
this week's sonny boy ep is such a snoozefest

finished watching the dumbbell anime. i probably wasnt the target audience for this, most of the lifting stuff i already knew and the ecchi scenes didnt do anything for me
still had a pretty good time watching it despite all that though. characters were great and s*** was actually funny as hell, some of the goofy ass meta humor had me dying

I could do manga but I have my netflix set up so I can see the entire Japanese transcript of the episode and zip back to things I didn't quite catch, so it's much more convenient then having to look things up individually when reading.
