Anyone heard of it/ knows about it?

I've been following Gobelins on youtube for about a decade now, and I love all their student's work. I know they take part in a film festival every year, and I want to make an effort to go there.

Annecy is a beautiful town just off the pics i saw on google. Near geneva, switzerland; im pretty sure im gonna have to fly to there and then go across the border.

Like look at this. This is just the ad for the event!

Very quaint and picturesque. Imma have to find a boo asap man i wanna be stuntin together

Anyone been to France? Im going to commit to learning a good amount of french if I go. Lyon is close by and a big city, does it have a good night scene? Is it a youthful city, or a retirement home?

had no idea they had a film festival there, that would be pretty cool

i visited annecy in fall 2019 while i was living in geneva, it’s absolutely stunning. they call it “venice of the north for a reason”, all the canals and s*** with mountains in the background were beautiful

also Lyon is def worth a visit, it’s the 2nd or 3rd largest city in france so it would probably have everything you’re looking for. pretty sure there is also a museum of film history there too since that’s where it was invented by the Lumière brothers. i was only there for a few hours so i’m not exactly sure specifics about nightlife but i definitely wanna go back, my first impressions of it were great

edit: also if you want to go there like you said your best bet would be to fly to geneva then take like a flixbus to annecy. that’s what i did and it was pretty cheap, takes about an hour iirc

You lived in geneva? Thats dope

Its about time i travel man ive really been itching to get out of the states. That part of europe is pretty elevated, no? Is it colder than the surrounding area, or would the summer be pretty warm?

The film festival is in the beginning of June, so i have a little less than 10 months to prepare. Thanks for the tip on Lyon, ill def make it a part of my itinerary.

Any other points of interests that you know of or wanted to go to? How is geneva? Expensive?

Sorry for all the questions 😭

Hey ! Im french, i live around Paris. When i was in high school i wanted to go to the Gobelins, but i got more interested into doing live action movies.
Lyon is a cool city really young. It might be in the top 3, top 5 of the most prosperous city in France. So go over there youll enjoy it very much.

geneva is definitely expensive, switzerland in general is one of the most expensive places on earth. i only got by bc i was studying abroad and lived with a host family so i luckily avoided paying for a lot of meals and s*** lol. but still worth a visit for a few days

and yeah it’s elevated bc of the surrounding alps but the cities themselves aren’t super high in elevation, so it’s not too bad in the winter unless you go up into the mountains. like i took a bus from geneva to milan in december through the mountains and there was snow but it wasn’t like crazy. june would be an amazing time to go bc it would be pretty warm but not super hot

in terms of other points of interest the whole french speaking part of switzerland is really beautiful, and obviously close by. easily accessible by train and the area around lake geneva especially has a lot of cool towns like lausanne, montreux, nyon etc. if you’re interested in nightlife lausanne supposedly has one of the best scenes in western europe, i wasn’t into that but people in my program went clubbing there all the time and locals always told me that. montreux is cool bc it’s where queen lived to record some of their albums so they have a big ass statue of freddie mercury there lol, and there’s a pretty cool castle nearby called chateau chillon.

other than that if you’re in lyon you’re only a couple hours away by train to paris, which even with all the hype is personally my favorite city in the world so i’d also recommend that if possible

Hello! Thanks for the reply chief

Live action, how is that? Must be different from animation. Harder or easier?

As a native, how would you say french towns and cities are to tourists, especially brown skinned muslims? I dont want to assume france is xenophobic especially with all the media exaggeration, but i also dont want to be naive. I want to go there and enjoy the culture. Any tips?

I guess i prefer to work with actors on set but I think animation might be a lot harder.
First of all dont believe the media, they represent a reaaally small part of a small part of the population. I think Lyon might have one the biggest muslim population of France. Im black (lightskinned often confused for an arab person when i was young) muslim, and i NEVER endured racism in France. Never in the street or else.
That being said, Lyon is known to be a "tough" city, but i come from rough neibourghood, so just choose a good area, be cool, dont look like a tourist with your camera around your neck and youll be fine

Oh okay. I figured as such, i didnt want to be sensational. I know my way around a city or two so inshallah i dont come across as a no nothing tourist. Thank you for the info!
