0/10. Worst movie I've ever seen.

No cap on my rating. Let me vent a lil bit. (SPOILER WARNING!!!!)

This movie is what happens when uncreative white liberal millennials trying to be woke think they know what black people (especially black women in regards to this film) want to see.

First off, the initial concept is trash and should have been scraped at the first pitch. Who the f*** looks at what's going on in the world and says "Depicting a rich white man's slavery fantasy is exactly what's needed today to get my message across"? Reminds me of when everybody got mad when HBO wanted to do a show on a world where "what if the Confederates won" was the premise. Truly disturbing s***. Rips off far superior movies (The Village, Westworld)

It cheaply exploits traumas of slavery rather than develop the characters they choose to brutalize. The use of "artful" looking slo-mo to emphasize slavery horrors and pull on heartstrings in the beginning was insulting and lazy af.

First act of the movie is black trauma p***. The second act is just as worse but instead black suffering is in the form of numerous microaggressions. Janelle Moane's character of Veronica is trash. Image-wise she is inspirational, but substantively vapid. Her whole essence reminds me of superficial black twitter liberals and her Ted Talk in the movie consist of the type of platitudinal dialogue they would spew.

Gabourey Sidibe's character of Dawn doesn't come off as the fun and confident best friend the movie wants you to see. Instead she is obnoxious and rude. I wanted to punch her in the f***ing face. She interrupts a conversation between Veronica and the host of the event. How unprofessional. Then she stole copies of her friend's book when less than 3 min earlier they said a portion of proceeds go to funding HBCUs. In the scene at the restaurant, a man buys her a drink, comes over to the table to compliment her, then this b**** has the audacity to admonished him like a child in front of her friends. Then has the nerve to give him her number like he wants to deal with a woman like that. He should have rips her number up in front of her face. Stupid b**** also sexually assaults the Lyft driver and was all in that man face while he was driving.

Everything is so on the nose. Everything. Racist white woman name is "Becky"...so f***ing corny. They even made it point to emphasize her name by zooming on her name tag. Cringe.

Third act is full on silly cliche horror ending territory. Never in my life have I been so empty seeing racist get what's coming to them.

This movie is a disgrace to the issues we face today and a disgrace to any black person who enjoyed this movie.

janellle shoud've steered clear from this

All my friends shat on this, but I thought it was alright. Far from a great film, but the concept is interesting and somewhat well executed imo

If this was another little Netflix film w lowered expectations then I think people could maybe appreciate the unique concept more. Kindred meets Westworld is a scary idea to unpack

Watching it right now. Boring movie, but Janelle pretty as always.
