I bought a dj controller recently mostly as a hobby. My friends runs events so he’s been hinting at wanting me to play at these events.

I need tips, anything...

If you can do a smooth mashup of two songs people love (same bpm, key, what have you) then u’ll be coasting all night

only scratch when a verse ends and the hooks about to come in so its a seamless transition

cos if i do a beat sync the next song starts sounding slow or too fast 😬 does it need to be SIMILAR or SAME bpm

also how do i get more music. i either have to buy apple music or can i just download s*** then upload on my laptop or what??

numark idj3 is nice. fairly decent price.

@op I recommend you use algoriddim djay for starters. You can find a nice torrent on the internet and (imo) it has a way more friendlier interface than virtualdj.

A homie told me in college when I was learning, make sure it sounds like one continuous song. Make sure your bpms match or are close to each other. And know where to place your cue points (or parts where you can press on your controller and the track you're playing on the left or the right turntable will go from that point)

and as far as catalog, honestly, it doesn't hurt in just asking your friends what they wanna hear. Before I started dj'ing I ain't really know s*** about nola bounce music or the different types of latin music (e.g. like I only knew basic reggaeton, but I aint know s*** like bachata or dembow for example) but my school had a big population of people from these places. So I had to learn, ask, and up my catalog.

And then, just go with what the crowd wants, depending on where you're djing.
