im thinking of taking up brazilian jiu-jitsu and boxing for self defense. things are getting a little too hot out here for me to just keep walking around unprepared.
I dont have a crew anymore. and even some of my old "friends" want to fight me now.
any advice / recommendations?
I took a jiu-jitsu class once in Mexico. I “rolled” with a girl and she beat my ass. It was pretty cool tho
I’ve been wanting to get into martial arts here in LA but classes are mad expensive
It's gonna take a lot of training before you can use ju jitsu as serious self defense, for real probably like two years depending on how frequent you train
What happened with your friends?
over females. goofy s***. i fked someone's ex. but they had been broken up for like a year and a half. plus i found out that he had been telling her a bunch of f***ed up lies about me and my family to try to put me down and make himself look better.
since then he's been runnin around town telling ppl a bunch of f***ed up lies about me so everyone thinks im not s*** and some ppl want to fight me....
its not like there's a manhunt or anything for me. but i dont go to any bars or clubs anymore out of paranoia. the last thing i want to do is go to a bar and run into a bunch of my f***ed up "friends"

thats fine. i got braces + school which both is going to take 2 years.
i was already planning on staying under the radar for 2 years.
yeah i was just looking into getting a concealed weapon's license tbh
I deleted it but seriously get a weapon and learn to properly and safely handle it. Don’t go around starting s*** but if someone attacks you make them regret that s***. Be ready can’t be out here with the glock freezing up

If you can find a gym with a good culture and are committed to training at least 3 times a week then I'd say it's a good investment. Just being exposed to 1 on 1 physical competition will be good also. It's not the end all be all for self defense but its crazy how quick you can end a fight against someone who doesn't know what they're doing on the ground

so if i wanted to take up kick boxing too, is that possible? or should i focus on one area at a time
It's gonna take you 1-2 years to be efficient in boxing; and that's going 5x a week for an hour...
Easy solution is learn how to handle a gun and get that licence now.
You should still train though. Boxing is better for more than one assailant, BJJ is better for one on one in small spaces. This won't matter if they have a weapon though, so I would say krav maga tbh
