I recently got a pretty basic safety razor and I can't believe how much I love it after switching from a traditional razor. But I know there's a lot of "ideal" gear/soaps that you want to use with them so if any long time users of these razors have some suggestions they would be greatly appreciated
I use one, how often do you shave?
Gotta keep alcohol on your face and your pours clean or else you’ll turn into a razor bump faced up mf
Tend skin razor solution is a god send for my face
I use it on my hairline too
It’s the best way to shave tbh, takes everything clean off
If you have a beard it’s a nice way to have it looking neat and it s*** too
Just gotta stay on top of the skin care or else you gonna look like a nestle crunch bar

I have one spot on my face that doesn't like the straight edge, I don't really have issues with bumps anywhere else.
Do you use the "Tend" before you shave?

After is the best time to use it when your skin is still tender right after the shave
You don’t even gotta have razor bumps to use it, it prevents bumps and it helps get rid of a irritated area
S*** is great, highly recommend

Im going to see if I can find some out later, I need it, I usually don't shave that area, but I decided to go with a new line, and it definitely went crunch bar on me.
Thanks

I use a straight razor to fix my beard line up. And edge up once weekly. I’ve been using it for like two years?
I still cut myself just cause I angle it wrong. But nothing serious. It’s fun to use and a lot more effect then the new gillete bs they put out.
My dad uses a safety one and loves it. Plus the blades are hella cheaper

Don’t bother with expensive pre shave oil, just use extra virgin olive oil instead. Much cheaper and works just as good.
Also the Merkur Slant Bar Double Edge Safety Razor makes it very difficult to cut your face up. Due to the blade being slanted and contouring to your skin. The slanted nature of the blade also allows coarser beards to be shaved with higher efficiency than traditional safety razors.
I use disposable straight razors from the brand called Feather. I only use it to line up my mustache, too sharp for my taste to shave. They make the best blades and straight razors at a reasonable price.
For safety blades my favorite brand is TATRA Platinum.
In general I find the Eastern European/ Slavic safety blades tend to be the sharpest in my personal experience.

In my experience it’s best to simply wash your face before and after shaving then use the Alum block on your face instead alcohol. It acts like alcohol but it’s superior imo. It takes up a fraction of the space of alcohol, is odorless, lasts significantly longer since it is a solid mass, and it’s just cool to use and have laying around your arsenal of grooming gadgets.

HUH? Alcohol no. Please no.
brothers shouldn’t be using razors…that s*** is not for us
I’m black and I use safety and straight razors lol

Me and my brother are black.
I made him switch over years ago, this myth revolves around the mainstream death of safety razors and straight razors for shaving.
Back in pre 1900's America, EVERYONE shaved with a razor, we just forgot how to.
This comes from people not using the right prep work

I have been using safety razors 5 years.
Premium products do matter but don't go overboard though.
Soaps and creams - Use a high fat shaving shaving cream, DO NOT use aerosol canned foams, they provide no lubricity whatsoever.
Recommend brands (I've used these btw)
Taylor old bond street Sandlewood, leather and Wood Bay Rum, Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars.
So basically follow this video.
