I’m starting a new job working as an assistant shooter on a Netflix TV show next month.

I’m excited but the issue for me right now is the schedule is BRAZY. They want me working 7am-7pm 6 days a week then in October to work from 7pm to 7am.

The pay is crazy good and it’s a great opportunity in the media industry BUT I feel like ima burn out very quickly with the long unsociable hours.

    Any advice?

Edit; I won’t be the only one on this schedule. They’ll be atleast 30-40 people also on it

U cant expect urself to be perfect for that many hours, so just try to do everything in a way where it takes not TOO much effort imo. Also when ur off of work, make sure ur OFF of work. Do something fun and dont think about work.

I myself was close to having a burnout and my problem was doing too much, trying to be perfect every minute at work and when i was off id still be checkin emails and s***. Dont do that and youll be okay buddy

    Thanks g

I have a bad habit of always doing too
much. It’s what landed me the role, I’m worried that if I don’t perform to my standard they might drop me after my
    probation period

that's crazy. Does the work schedule get better later or is this just how it's gonna be for the next 20+ years

Bruh that sounds like a dope job wtf are you talking about

You could become a famous actor

make sure you maintain a healthy diet and that you go to the gym. do something that you enjoy that relaxes you outside of work, but is also productive in some way, like a hobby.

the pitfall a lot of folk fall into is that they're miserable at work and then go on to be miserable at home as well. don't fall into a vicious cycle.

I work in the industry as well, sounds like you've got a really great job, Netflix is obviously a big part of the future.

I don't really have much advice, as I'm sure you already know a bit this industry is just relentlessly tough. The hours are insane. All I can suggest is to try to give yourself as much space outside of working hours to clear your head and turn your mind off. You'll get a great pay day out of this gig, make some great connections, and you'll learn a ton. Then, you'll most likely have some time off to recuperate.

While on set (I know with covid crafty is a little less of a priority lol..) it really, really helps on those long days to not snack too much. That really weighs you down and gets you into a cycle where you could feel like you're constantly falling behind physically and it honestly doesn't have to be that way.

Best of luck, maybe our paths will cross in the future.

Yeah im shook when it comes to snacking. Whenever im on set I eat loads lmao smh.

I been working out and eating healthy for most of lockdown so trying not to get into that cycle. Luckily we have catering and it all seems healthy from what they're saying.

    Haha it's the struggle.

Back when I first started as a PA (and still smoked cigarettes) it was just constant cigs and an unreasonable amount of coffee.

You learn how to live as you go, I suppose.

do at least 10 minutes of exercise or something like 8 minute abs and give yourself something to look forward to after work. don't take stress from work home with you, once you clock out leave that stress there

Congrats op that sounds pretty cool despite the grueling work.

I would say to commit to being unsociable for this tiny part of your life. Youll always have the opportunity to go back when its all said and done, but trying to juggle both a social life and work like this wont work.

COMMIT TO A SCHEDULE. That means up at a certain time everyday, sleep at a certain time everyday, even eat at the same time. If youre body is in tune with whats going on it makes it so much easier then having to deal with work and fighting your body.

Keep hydrated, well fed, and well exercised. Keep a diary to ease your mental as well. Have fun and make connections brodie
