This is the latest one for me
Interesting ass album for its era and also might be greatly underrated because of its era.(if this dropped like in 1990,before The Chronic,Nuttin But Love might be held as a classic). This was Heavy D & The Boys final album released in 94,when gangsta rap was taking over the US,so I can assume during that time, this album was considered corny to a lot of teens/young adults.
But if you have an appreciation for old school flows and smooth beats, the quality on this album is up there. I’m pretty sure Heavy D was at a crossroads during this time and was possibly being forced to get with the times and drop more vicious music but instead,he seems to just had quit rapping altogether, and it seems to me,he went out his way
Heavy D is definitely a rapper I’ve never appreciated like that because I’ve always seen his stuff as “too old school to the point it’s corny” but I think this album was a good attempt at reinventing himself while not alienating who he was. None of the other Heavy D & The Boys albums really match “Nuttin But Loves” tone.
Idk wtf else ima gonna listen to and post but ima try and keep this thread updated when I do listen to something new. But if you have anything you want to post, post it please. Late career albums have just been my thing lately
maybe not late late but i've been real into 80s miles davis lately he was on some weird sht
these albums are interesting when an artist has really done all they can do to cement themselves so they're just f***ing around for the fun of it ... arguably kanye been at this point for a few albums but i dont wanna talk about that itt
yeah a few tbh
i feel like a lot of (younger?) people underrate late career albums and think musicians are just a totally spent force not worth your time once they turn like 40

I was actually listening to his last album,Doo-Bop,last week. Didn’t finish it but it was more inviting then his 80s stuff cause of the Hip Hop influence

Exactly, late career albums are some of the most interesting albums for most artists because you get to see how they navigate in a new era. It’s really the peak of some artist creativity, whether good or bad.
Yeah I'm listening to CLB a lot and it's underappreciated. Incredible that he was still making classics 12 years in his career

such a distinct sense of place, atmosphere & he's just bugging the hell out you can hear the decades he's put into sharpening his tools he's just going left with it

This track is so off kilter but yet listenable. Could be a theme song to some 80s crime show or played during an 80s chase scene in a slasher flick
Listened to 4:44 for the first time a couple months back and I definitely slept on that old man. Hov still got it.
This album is a masterpiece(just to clarify,I’m talking about the Jamie XX version)

exactly ! you can see the steam coming off buildings & sewer grates, shadowy silohouettes around corners
so tight

Crazy thing is that,Jay-Z still has “it” like age and time isn’t a factor
Yep, beautiful spoken word and the Flashing Lights instrumental is just a cherry on top.
Incredible album front to back
This is still a crazy ass intro song. One of my favorite Bowie songs OAT
Isn’t the “The Next Day” his last official album before he died? That album is really good too

They banned Zezima??

Nope, Blackstar is. He died two days after it released.
The Next Day is still amazing though and unfortunately very underappreciated compared to how much noise Blackstar made.
