I won't say i gave up on rap but I feel quite detached from whats popping today and i'm always looking for new s*** but it just ain't clicking for me.
But then again I'm 30 now and I just demand more from music to stimulate me and rap today just ain't delivering compared to my HS/college/early career days. I find myself listening to other genres these days to satisfy my needs.

Nope.....about 90% of the current s*** I listen to is underground and I listen to current Hip Hop as much as I always have. Plus a lot of s*** from the 90s, 00s, and 10s......I don't see myself ever not being a fan of this genre and I'm damn near 40

ryuHI feel like 2024 officially marks the year that I’m just no longer interested in this s***. Rappers refuse to grow and s*** is getting weird ignorant and worst of all, boring. And I’m not just talking commercial/trap/drill s*** either. I’m talking about the entire genre. Dusty rappers doing their best 90s rap impression and coke rappers on alchemist type beats just as uninspired imo. Rage trap was fun for a sec but that’s proven itself to be a gimmick pretty much. Obscure rappers usually obscure for a reason and previous gen A-List rappers like the big 3 and such are aging out and can’t continue to carry this s*** and honestly unless they do something different I’m good on them too lol.
Like I’ve pretty much checked out at this point and I no longer engage with the music or culture for entertainment. Honestly kinda reminds me of how I felt when I quit smoking weed, it’s like a new sense of mental clarity lol it’s wild.
Not tryna rain on anyone else’s parade or be negative, at the end of the day it’s entertainment so if it’s entertaining you then that’s great but yeah hip-hop just doesn’t do it for me anymore sadly and unless there is a major shift this might be permanent. Hip-hop been my favorite genre all my life so me disengaging from it kinda simultaneously disengaged me from music as a whole so I’m gaming a lot more these days, watching YouTube, movies etc. Even on here I’m mostly in gaming section now if anything because there is nothing going on rap wise that I even care to talk about lol. I do see the beauty in this s*** too don’t get me wrong. It’s like being an adult watching a school play. There is a certain level of innocent creativity going on that you can appreciate and admire but ultimately it’s still childish and incapable of stimulating you intellectually

I think that’s what it’s gonna take tbh
People are going to continue to check out and that’s going to continue to reflect in the numbers so artist will eventually be forced to challenge themselves to earn back that engagement
