Like, I see how the former president made wearing a mask a partisan issue, and so many people taking lockdowns and everything like it’s government overreach and like it so f***ed. Than our federal government sat on their asses for months withholding pandemic aid and people spreading fake news consistently over covid(and the rise of QAnon, lost my mother to this) just like I feel like when America historically has had a crisis they unite(9/11 for example) and just like I used to have friends that leaned conservative that I cut off because they became radicalized/dangerous the last year. Just like I feel like I’ve lost faith in peoples ability to care about others.

has little to do with the government. people should be able to think for themselves. I started wearing masks in early march when the government, CDC, and WHO were all telling people masks are useless.

I am, but all the pandemic did was underline what I already knew: the people are dumb as f***, drunk on their own sense of freedom and entitlement, congress is slow and useless, and our entire system of government is ill-suited to fit the needs of 50 wildly polarized states.

It was also a reminder that the federal government can and will abandon you for any reason, including your political ideology. The moment your state isn't seen as politically beneficial, you go to the back of the line. Local government is the only way to see any timely, meaningful progress in your own life.

Never had much faith to begin with, but a combination of seeing Trumpism, neoliberalism, rise of misinformation as traditional media dies, politicization of a deadly virus, etc. all within a seemingly short time span can make a person who doesn't really follow world affairs disillusioned about America.
