Bruh I’m in class rn and I’m constantly having to look up and down at the PowerPoint BC I can’t spell AT ALL and when I try to do a word from memory I forget letters or add letters
English is my first and only language. Makes me feel like s*** sometimes. And sometimes if a big word is in the PowerPoint I have to ask someone what that word is or how it’s pronounced. Makes me feel soooo dumb.
I read books a lot and I can speak fine. I think I have a good vocabulary but when it’s writing from memory I die
WHO’S WITH ME
Your brain doesn't really memorise the spelling of complete words just by glancing at them I'm pretty sure
This got me feeling a lil better bout myself thanks for posting op hope you get better at it
Same thing with me. I find that it doesn’t really matter cause I can understand my notes
Was a spelling bee kid in elementary school + my brain is wired weird so it’s actually one of the few things I’m really good at 👍
Im the best seller ever
Also not knowing definitions is no big deal. Just gotta Google it or ask someone like you said you do.

I’m literally 21 wtff is wrong with me and english
You didn’t grow up without spellcheck. Give yourself some grace

Yeah I understand them but then I’m like damn I couldn’t spell “thorough” on my first try
Just sound it out dummy
Bruh English isn’t like other languages where you can sound out all words
English spelling hassss sooooo many exceptions
Yeah I understand them but then I’m like damn I couldn’t spell “thorough” on my first try
Understandable. We have though, through, thorough, thought and it’s guesswork unless you know
Do you read? I find reading helped me learn English. I used an eBook reader where I could highlight words and it would bring up the definition. Reading at my own pace (not being rushed in a lecture) really helped me

If you have an iPhone try the bogstandard book app that comes with it. Or s*** better yet, read articles online: New Yorker, Economist, etc. Find hard text, search their definition, play the phonetics, write it down and revise it at a later stage
I know it sounds super patronising/redundant but I just think (excluding any neurological issue) your lack of confidence with spelling/morphology is where the disconnect is. To improve that, treat it like anything else, and study it. Keep a journal and revise it every week or so
I’m not too sure how detrimental this is to you outside of school though so it may be moot
The best thing that helped me was turning off my autocorrect and having my friends clown me, but I wouldn’t recommend that
