don't get me wrong, i'm a fan of all of them but i was listening to this song earlier:

and realized that Kodak isn't really all that different from Gunn, Conway, Benny etc, and if he decided to go down that route he could easily fit in and even carry some of them if he did, why do Griselda fans think so highly of these niggas??

It’s def fast food music (which doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable) but it’s boom bap so people put it in a different echelon

It’s the sample beats that gets these people going

I used to be obsessed with finding samples and flipping them so I get it.

Also I think that fans of this group didn’t really have anyone else at the time to fill in this “real rap” space. Maybe this was their first real-time experience with this type of rap music. But I’m just assuming…

it's mostly been the production value. Gunn is my favorite because he always samples good s***, and doesn't take himself too seriously. So I go into it knowing he's having some fun and talking s***, and its a good listen

Only with Westside Gun because he really don't be saying s*** he just got great beats

Cause Conway verse on this is a top 10 verse

He’s more of a tastemaker. I think he openly said himself he doesn’t even wanna be a rapper lol

He never even really freestyled when Benny and Conway would. He didn’t even freestyle in the shady bet cypher lol

thinking they've got better bars than a kodak doesn't mean they're "deep" subject matter wise, although you've got songs like the cow which are all-timers imo

i don't think fans overestimate that or think they're like billy woods or mos def or someone more in that lane

kodak is talented enough to carry any song

I stopped checking for Griselda like 2 years ago

It’s just fun music it’s really not that deep

Sidebar, every Boldy James album is that deep

I get why they did it, because they're in 40s and they very well might never getting that level of hype again.

But man they really ran their sound into the ground from all that oversaturation they were doing

They have some masterfully written songs especially Mach (on his Griselda work) Rome and Conway

But a lot of is just vibes

mach and boldy music are the only ones from that camp i rate but a lot of their stuff is just meh to me, bits of greatness then and there

I don’t overestimate their depth

I listen to Westside Gunn for fly raps

Conway for violent street nigga raps

Benny for get money trap nigga raps

Boldy for dark, semi-introspective, trap nigga raps

The beats just provide an unconventional canvas for these raps by todays standards

I don't think it's depth they overestimate. Maybe more so lyrical ability

besides mach and maybe boldy, kodak has always been a better lyricist than them. they’re not bad or even average, but their capabilities do get exposed on different production styles

beats are good, conductor williams carry the group, mach and boldy cool...sometimes gunn rap about this he dont know

Griselda fans like their grimy raps over grimy boom bap beats
Depth isn’t a factor lol
