I think a lot of popular female rap is more influenced by club/dance music which uses more samples than a lot of other genres

I have a feeling this thread was made with big energy by latto in mind and thats basically a genius of love remix lol

Think abt any of the really big songs by female rappers… almost all of them are very heavily sample based. I don’t think that’s a good sign and creativity as a whole is goin down

it's because their labels put them in sessions and essentially say "make this song over this sample and that's gonna be the single". if you watch their interviews, rappers talk about it too. even male rappers. but i think it's more common with girls bc they don't tend to have musical teams, just teams that manage them

  • I mean i think rap as a whole using samples alot

The drill trend of flippin pop songs
    The new jack harlow

    I think its cool

    What am i tryna say

It just seems odd to specifically target women for something that is normal for the genre and is also happening with hits by male artists

But I can't figure out y u would do tht it's so weird

I wonder if it's male execs and producers subconsciously using a sample of a song by a man to validate a woman who raps. Like how a woman's boyfriend says "that's my girl" and a dude immediately stops harassing her because they respect the man's "territory" more than the woman's feelings.
The song with the sample is then a woman's version of a man's song rather than being considered her own work.

Male rappers are doin it too, but i feel like it’s more pronounced with women. Like, if u got a big song and ur a female rapper there’s a good chance it’s heavily sample based

Sample based the wrong word, I get what you mean cause they’re directly remaking old songs basically
