I made the mistake of getting a Ford fusion last year, biggest mistake I ever made it's been nothing but a money pit of endless issues I'm not putting another cent into it. I'm supposed to go look at a 2013 avenger se v6 tomorrow with 99k miles with $5900 asking price

Any thoughts on this car and if that's a fair price?

Lol OK so first off, no, my experience with Dodge Avengers was not good, though the asking price you got looks to be fair ($6000-8000 keeps popping up), so if you want it that's not so bad. The reviews on Avengers from that era are just OK, but they're decent enough. That's the tldr of it, but I've really got to dig into how bad my Avenger was.

I had one back in 2012, it was my wife's car when she was working at a factory and I was still in college. It was like $1000 used. She bought it because it was called the Avenger, I f***ing kid you not. I can't remember the mileage, probably not far off the one you were talking about. It had a hole in the roof so whenever it rained, water would leak into this insulated section and it would seep through slowly. The heater sometimes worked but I wouldn't count on it to save my life in a blizzard or anything. It had a tape deck.

A while later we moved to a trailer park and there was a guy there was even more down bad than we were, which is impressive because those were our pawning days. His wife had just left him, he was unemployed and living in a s***ty trailer park so I felt bad for the guy. I got to talking to the him and I decided to sell him the Avenger for peanuts because we had another car anyway.

He signs the contract I wrote up and within a matter of days disappears off the face of the earth before he could give me my money. He had no title, nothing. I got finessed out of the worst car I've ever owned that day.

I think of it as karma because I'm living in LA and my household makes almost 200k a year and I'm sure he's still out there looking like Rick from Pawn Stars and bumping Recovery in s***ty used cars. I doubt that Avenger got him past the state line though.

Nothing teaches you about buying cars like buying bad used cars and getting f***ed over

General advice to anyone reading this thread: look up any recalls or safety notices for the year and model so you know what to look for when you're checking it out. If the car has rust, mismatched paint or a rough interior they probably didn't take care of the car and it's likely had it worse than the mileage implies.
