My girl has been pushing me to get a pet forever. But right now we both are about to start working full time next month, so a dog (as much as I'd want one) would be left alone 8 hours a day at least. Multiple walks a day. And I may not always be able to play with them with everything I got going on.
I am allergic to cats but I'm getting a hypoallergenic one, really hope that doesn't bite me in the ass. Getting a Russian blue. They're lazy and independent and cuddly. So that's kind of all I want in a pet right now. Am I making a good decision or can I just end my relationship right now.
Plus I been looking at like automatic feeders and automatic litter boxes that I thought were expensive but you can get them at petco for like 50-80 bucks. So s*** that's even less maintenance to handle
You should probably try hangin gout consistently with one for a couple hours every day before committing to buying one to make sure it won't effect your allergies.
Dont get a cat if youre leaving it alone for 8 hours every day lmao whats wrong with you. Or buy 2 cats so they have company.
cats have super individualistic personalities so its hard to say if a potential cat will really suit ur lifestyle needs
my cat doesnt really care to play to much (he'll only want to play once every 2 days for like 8 minutes... otherwise he'll just lay there looking at you uninterested)
but we were thinking about adopting another cat who like needed an hr of interactive play every day + passive, independent play or else ull find ur entire home in complete tatters (things knocked over, toilet paper shredded, etc)
so
id say see if u can just have the cat for 2 weeks or something as like a trial period and go frm there

some cats do NOT want company lol
esp male cats tend to be very independent and are very territorial, some even after getting their balls snipped
getting 2 cats without like making sure they actually like being around other cats will cause like the absolute most chaotic living arrangement for all involved
tbh the adoption people should be able to tell u abt a cats personality too

I have no idea how I would be able to do that. We asked the owner if we could do a trial for like a day or two and they said no

The hypoallergenic stuff is bullshit
Hang out around one before you get it
I used to be allergic but outgrew them
My girl and I have a cat

Damn. I might try to look at it first then. Like I can't have a pet thats got me f***ed up 24/7
Maybe see if you can take it to your hour house for a few nights before purchase
Humane society does that I believe
I've had a cat that was close to a Russian Blue but not exactly, and also one that was a Russian Blue
The one that was close was a female and lived 18 years and was the best pet I could have possibly asked for it was literally like my sister
The Russian Blue was a male and had a lot of problems, unfortunately only lived like 3 or 4 years and was kind of a pain in the ass most his life

cats are super individualistic. Everywhere I've looked has said it's good for my lifestyle. It's not like I'm gonna leave it with no toys and food. You're acting like I'm a monster lmao. I gotta work nigga.

i definitely like automatic feeders, its best to feed cats at the same times every day bc they enjoy routine
ideally 3 times a day (i do 9:30, 3:30, 9:30)
so if u just set it to that u shld b good
plus then theyre not as enticed to do "bad" begging behaviors
BUT our cat only rly wants to be super affectionate when its around meal times so i like to feed him myself bc i want him to giv me affection
never tried an automatic litter box but the setup we had isnt bad at all tbh... just scoop the poop once a day, change out the pee pad once a week, then pellets once a month

2 kittens will get along great I assume. My cat used to go nuts and pretty much cry when he was alone at home. Every time my mother would leave the house and I was in my room upstairs Id hear him miauw sadly and he'd come scratch my door until I opened

Fam you should get 2 cats or not at all if youre not letting him go outside and leaving him alone that much everyday

ya i think if theyre from the same litter especially theyll actually WANT to be together and adoption agencies might prefer ppl who can take them together
a lot of it is like,,, how they were socialized as kittens
but when you adopt most of the time you don't know about a cats history as a kitten
but if a cat wasnt socialized around other cats while young they will pretty much never like being around other cats
my cat isnt really ~~needy for attention/affection he's pretty chill on his own and is prone to get annoyed at being smothered lololol
but theres defs cats who do NOT like being alone rly
but at the same time MY cat will murder any other cat caught lurking in his territory on sight efiojwefjow
I asked that and was told no actually
dang..... id see if i can adopt from somewhere else then tbh
allergies dont play
and also if you're already kinda just on the fence, i feel like it would be worse for you to be in a situation where u cannot handle the cat you get and then have to put it back up for adoption or somethign
esp for hypoallergenic cats apparently its kinda debatable if theyre truly hypoallergenic

Yeah I really don't want to get a pet just to take it away from another home.
I'm trying to ask about the personality of the cat, if the owners won't even agree to that or let me see it I have to look somewhere else. They're just not being fair.
