all the way since 2018 he has talked about:
+how yandhi would use "sounds no one has heard before" and "groundbreaking concepts" and used new body as an example, a song which has none of these things, i know jik and the yandhi leaks are two different things but why would he ditch these "new sounds" just because he wants to do a religion-centered album? he obviously is still great at production, but its nothing as revolutionary as he promised.
+how he has thought about fans saying he has not made a great and finished album since yeezus and tweeted about how he needs time to make a mbdtf-level record
+how he doesn't like 808s and drum sequencing anymore because it stimulates the s***chakra, jik is full of traditional hip hop sequencing, it would have at least been interesting for him to use live percussion like in the sunday services

the album is still kinda good and has a couple brilliant moments, also the 5 delays and huge hype may have ruined it for people who have been following since day 1 but he really came short on this one.

Damn that was a really well written post. I agree. As soon as I heard the first listening party, though, I knew it wouldn’t be MBDTF-level so I set my expectations accordingly. That’s probably why I enjoy JIK a lot.

it really is a good album, under any other hip hop name this would be revered as truly innovative and the sincere christianity lyrics would be taken as eccentric, either way with a discography as good as kanye's there is really no way to keep exceeding yourself every release.

The fact Kanye told his pastor he wanted to quit rap because he didn’t know how to rap for God, when he’s the one who wrote Jesus Walks, tells me he doesn’t really have a good sense of how to use his creative powers right now musically.

Similar to your last point, the biggest disappointment to me was hearing him begin to talk about topics like chakras, the law of attraction, healing frequencies, etc. and then throwing it all away in favor of extremely shallow Christian themes

Going back over his twitter the amount of super interesting things he references you would think he has a very unique view on religion and i hope he has but has chosen to keep this album as his ultimate jesus worship album. also not surprising he kept mentioning bob dylan on twitter a year ago.
