Just graduated college recently and now I’m bouta jump into my career. I didn’t expect to work night shift but looks like I’m gonna be stuck doing it for some time
Anyone have advice for transitioning into staying up all night?
Good luck man. I worked night shift for most of 2019. The only advice I can give is to start working on adjusting your sleep pattern so you don’t hit that 3am crash. That’s the only thing I can say, it’s really hard staying up overnight no matter how long you’ve been doing it. But making sure you get the proper rest is a major key.

Thanks, mad ass man

You not on some swing shift s*** with the graveyard sched right??
How was it for you?
horrible lmao
so ill say this:
the main thing is to keep and stick to a routine. IDEALLY, let's say if you worked from like 10 pm to 6 am or something, the best thing you can do is go to sleep and wake up at the same time every single day, even on your days off.
most people can't do this unfortunately because of sht and people they gotta do outside of work.
since that isn't feasible for everyone, what that means is that likely two days will be hard af to get through -- the first day off, and the first shift of the week. with these days, you probably will need caffeine to stay awake. I would recommend caffeine tablets. they're way cheaper than almost anything else, and you know how much youre taking. I would take about 200 mg for four hours of being awake.I eventually I was able to make those 200 mg be effective for a whole shift, rather than just half.
that's the other thing- only use caffeine when you really need to. the more you use it, the less effective it becomes. also consider timing. if you time it wrong, then you end up staying up later than you intended, which means you sleep less than you intended, and then you're going back to work way too tired, re-starting the cycle again.
so if you can at least be disciplined about the days you go to work in getting enough sleep, then you won't f*** yrself up too much. if there has ever been a time to be as healthy as you can be, it would be during this period of time you have to work overnight. otherwise, it deteriorates you tbh.
