I don’t buy the narrative that it’s impossibly expensive to live. It will be though if you all keep memeing it into reality.
This is giving “because it’s not happening to me it’s not happening”
Yes it is very much impossible to live right now, even in areas where it’s usually cheap.
When my landlord decided to sell our house out the blue and we basically got booted out I was terrified of being homeless because NOTHING was available in a viable price range. Application fees that are non refundable and constantly getting declined, having too much income for affordable housing, not enough income for what’s on the market, ridiculous deposit fees. Rent being unlivable on top of utilities and gas prices. Ktt is full of a lot of privilege with people who have decent to very good jobs. I’m not saying that people were just given those good jobs and they didn’t work hard for them, but not everyone has that luxury. Someone has to have the low paying jobs and that’s the majority. Some people live off disability which legitimately is not viable to live on alone. Most housing situations where I live currently are basically rooming houses splitting up 4 bdr into “apartments” and it’s just glorified roommates. Life is very expensive and impossible to live for some people unless you truly know how to maneuver. Especially if you love check to check and all it takes is one f*** up and you’re on your ass

You can move. Bottom line.
You can move. Bottom line.
Are you being dense or are you truly that unaware? The housing market right now is impossible to find anything livable if you aren’t making slightly above bare minimum. If this is a National problem you don’t just simply “move” not everyone has the options to just pick up and go somewhere random for a multitude of reasons. And it costs a lot of money to just “move” that if you have that money you’re probably not in a spot of struggling to find a place to live

How much is bare minimum to you? Minimum wage?
How much is bare minimum to you? Minimum wage?
Minimum wage in most areas is not bare minimum. Bare minimum meaning you can afford rent + utilities + food. Most people cannot do this currently.

How do you know?
this a new tlc show?
How do you know?
Because I’m living it myself? Because most people I know personally are living it themselves and are just one f*** up from being in shambles . Because most people I have on social media are in the same or similar circumstances.
At this point I’m just going to take it you’re being dense based on these replies

What in particular is stopping you from moving? I know people are being redlined to death in plenty of areas and they have all of their roots planted there so they can’t leave. But these have always been people who’re routinely abused and sacrificed for the sake of our economy; in that we thrive off poor workers. So I don’t see it the same when a millennial is complaining about high rent when this is supposedly the generation of the Information Age.
Unless op is recording from a halfway house then she clearly is not being rushed into this awful market she describes. Clearly she has time and resources to figure something else out…

It’s… not affordable. To live anywhere right now. Where I live is considered cheap as is and it’s skyrocketed. Again if you’re living check to check or month to month. You don’t have the luxury of saving money to find somewhere to move to while also trying to afford simply living as is. If you’re not living on your own it’s safe to say it’s not viable to pack up and leave on your own when you can barely get by with housemates. Moving is hella expensive. The house I just moved into last year was right down the road and the initial move was pricey as hell that if I was 100% on my own I would not have been able to do it. The logic “just move if it’s too expensive” just isn’t viable and you answers why yourself with their being multitudes of reasons why people can’t just pack up and leave city or state.
