basically all of the Western Europe colonised
remember before 15th century AD europe was a s*** hole and innovation in science, arts and tech came from Islamic society
Who preserved the wisdom from the Ancient Greek as Europe fell into dispair and connections were severed. Europe has always been a “shithole” for the common people until the 20th century. The wealthy always flourished though, but so did they in other continents. The wealth of Europe mainly came through the strict rules and unification that the former roman empire brought which allowed for trade to flourish. As the European countries worked together ships travelled the Baltic Sea for grain so other countries could focus on other endeavors. You don’t need gold to be rich. Wealth is food and trade. The reason colonization happened was the new products and status that it brought. A bit of a “look at me”. European countries wanted to be seen as powerful and wanted those luxury goods. In order to keep the peace the conference of Berlin was formed, but what did it change? Real change for the common people came only after the end of European wars, since it allowed for trade to flourish

If we're being real yeah
Colonisation was brutal and a blight against humanity as well as being somewhat unnecessary, but it didnt massively improve the lives of ordinary people

African countries like asians came late to build infrastructure in the 1800 like railways for train. There is a reason why some glory kingdomds from late medievil time like the mogul empire, chinese kingoms or the persian empire took very long to compete in a way to europeans. I think it was to abstract for them to build railways and other infrastructure so they left behind
In short it was the triumphal march of capitalism and scientific and technical developments which made europeans rich. Colonialism is a product of these facts and increased the wealth even more (but wasnt the main point like many people think).

Yoire right on this
The colonies costed more than the value extracted from them, it was about vanity and making sure your neighbour didnt get too much
It is cheaper to trade than control
A brief history of humankind by Harari has an intresting answer to this question. It was just a coincidence that the europeans took the power for big developments in science, military and technique like it was a coincidence that the arabs were the power in science 1000 years before.
Its naive to think that Eurpeans are only rich because of colonialism.

Another great argument is that Taiwan, South Korea, singapore and Japan (was a colonial empire but lost it wll) are all in some ways wealthier than most of europe despite never having colonies
All in all it's ok to view colonialism as an evil blight on humanity without communist nonsense
If you wanna think like a 5th grader sure
Bootlicking won't get you anywhere near being part of the ruling elite there is nothing inaccurate to equating capitalism to the exploitation of people.
it's the truth no cap.
