prior to streaming, a post-album release single could still be fresh to all the people who didn't purchase the album when it first came out
now songs struggle to find success post-release because so many people have already heard the song for months before it's sent to radio.
this isnt always the case though, Bop and Watermelon Sugar are good recent examples of post-album release single that did very well
It’s hard to get people to care about more than one thing from artists anymore, effects of streaming

Butterfly effect was lead single
Butterfly effect was lead single
Started as a loosie single and it’s a loosie from Birds
Scorpion was supported by the singles "God's Plan", "Nice for What", "I'm Upset", "Don't Matter to Me", "In My Feelings", "Nonstop", and "Mob Ties". All seven singles reached the top twenty on the US Billboard Hot 100, with three of them reaching number one: "God's Plan", "Nice for What", and "In My Feelings".
The only song that popped after Scorpion released was In My Feelings. Nonstop freefalled down the chart after the first week and Don’t Matter to Me flopped when it was pushed to radio. Same with Mob Ties
It seems like with streaming, when the album drops at least one song becomes the obvious hit, and that one song will start to do well post release (In My Feelings, Sicko Mode, Better Now).
But yeah I can’t think of an album recently that has generated multiple hits after the album dropped.

But yeah I can’t think of an album recently that has generated multiple hits after the album dropped.
The only time it really happens is if the album doesn’t have a big debut. Like Roddy has had The Box and High Fashion after the album released cause casual fans weren’t super familiar with him when his album came out.
prior to streaming, a post-album release single could still be fresh to all the people who didn't purchase the album when it first came out

Yeah, this is exactly what I was getting at when I made the thread and you put it very succinctly
The only time it really happens is if the album doesn’t have a big debut. Like Roddy has had The Box and High Fashion after the album released cause casual fans weren’t super familiar with him when his album came out.
yeah and I dont consider songs that blow up the same week the album came out to be a true post-release single, because the majority of those songs peak the week after the album arrives and far before theyre sent to radio. like The Box hit #1 before it was even an official single
Go Crazy out now
When's the last time more than one song pushed as a single after an album has already been relased has done well?
Used to if you were a big artist you could release one or two singles, drop the album, and then coast for the next six months off singles from the album.
These days it seems you might get one previously unreleased song to hit with the public and that's it. Everything else on the album you might as well gone ahead and write off as far as the charts is concerned . Once the public has already heard it they ain't trying to hear it again.
6 months is moreso recent. Back in the 80s and 90s they'd release singles from that one album (and tour) for a good 2 years
