I used to rap on Soundcloud back in the early 2010's.

The thing about rap is that simply rapping in general takes less skill than singing. Anyone can rap some super mid verse with a sloppy flow that's passable and can vaguely go with the beat.

But mastering rap and being skilled with it takes a ton of skill. And I'd argue singing a passable tune is easier than being a dope rapper. I know because I've dabbled with both singing and rapping. And I'm legit a better singer and piano player than I am a rapper.

I can spit passable verses but I can't spit like Kendrick, Nas, Wayne, Em, Biggie, etc. to save my life and I've tried it numerous times.

The problem is that people who discount rapping as a talent tend to only focus on the lower tier rappers and not the whole spectrum.

technically if rappers perform music they are musicians just by being in the mix

i think people hear the term "musician" and think "playing instruments" and if you don't play one then you're out, but the voice is an instrument and you're using patterns and sounds n stuff with it
