I notice in the WC squad there’s very few black players.

Same with Argentina a Spanish colony where I think there’s none. Prolly whiter than any European country

This is in contrast to Portugal and Brazil- a Portuguese colony, where there’s a lot of players of black ancestry on both teams.

Surely got me thinking Spaniards have a certain culture towards black people compared to their Portuguese neighbours

There was a clear racial disparity when I visited Barcelona, and thats a diverse city where around 1 in every 3 citizens were born abroad.

I can imagine as a country there is probably a pretty heavy racial bias that follows a typical worldview of colorism.

You'd be treated fine as a tourist in the big cities though, because everyone just wants your money.

Bruh, the UK left the UE and a major reason for it was racially/ethnically motivated, don't kid yourself.

somehow, I lived in Spain a couple years as an east-european, they weren't directly racist with me but they definitely where lowkey, there's also many nationalist/patriotic movements, fascists and nazis

these are from selected moments, it was not a re-ocurring thing that could not let you lead a normal life tho, I don't know or speak for others

at school you were bullied if you spoke other language that the majority didn't understood (at first I didn't knew spanish so I was only talking with a few kids of my same nationality)

during youth I was relating myself with more foreign kids than spanish, don't know why but it was really a blessing to have so many cultures clashed in a same place, you get to learn so much

in the professional world you were not prioritized to be selected on job applications, you were also more prone to be hired as a temp, and paid less than a spanish person

there existed (and might still exist) some extreme-right political parties with slogan 'Spanish people first', we also had one hq in our city but everyone was vandalizing it

as a romanian we were many times misrelated with roma people

keep in mind I felt less and less racism with time, but maybe it was because I usually blend in with the accent, or people changed
