We were just chopping it up about The Chronic, which I told him had mad filler, but he was like you had to be there for that whole era to fully appreciate it. He was a teen during 1992 - 1996 so he got to listen to the GOAT albums too. He was a youngin during the Rakim era and stuff. His favorite rapper is Hov and he loves new stuff too but he can't get into Kendrick cause he feels he tries too hard to be different and abstract
Damn. So jealous of the bro. Also jealous of you having a bro who listens to hip hop.
My brother has never listened to an album in his life. He’s just one of those who listens to the radio and compilation albums.
tpab is one of those albums where I have to separate best from favorite.
it’s obvious upon first listen that tpab is one of the best albums to release in the 2010s because of the thought behind it, the cohesiveness of sound and theme, etc.
however I would not say tpab is one of my favorite albums because I just don’t get the same pleasure from listening to it as I do with other albums. I think people don’t make this distinction enough and that’s why you see hate on the album
this 100x

Yeah nah he’s a gem honestly. It’s good to hear it from an OG tbh He was born in NY but raised in Miami and he was even explaining how The Beasties even got through to the hoods of florida and s*** too. Overall he has a great taste of music but the TPAB/Kendrick take is still wild lmao
@PerryTheMADLADYPUS
What you saying???
@dumpsterfire summed it up very well for me "it was an instant classic for anyone with a heart" FELL IN LOVE with the album at first listen. was a 10/10 for me then and a 10/10 for me now (even though i think highlyier (issa word now) of it now, in terms of how it has aged and that kind of stuff but yeah) it's one of my favourite albums to listen to in a front to back experience and i find myself picking up on new tiny details and nuances of context i didn't before every time i listen. excellent execution of production and instrumentation, immaculate narrative and sequencing. my only problem? i STILL WANT THIS
EDIT: CLASSIC CLASSIC CLASSIC CLASSIC CLASSIC CLSASICC CLASSIC CLASSIC

my other brother is like yours tho lmao even through he put my dad on to Illmatic and OutKast back in the day but lately he just stopped following it like that
are we past the "DAMN. is not a classic" phase yet
it’s really his best album but people not ready for that discussion yet
combined the subject matter of all of his albums along with new topics and managed to put it in a more commercial context of production that makes it digestible to a wider audience
the hardest thing to do is make something with endless depth that also is so simple at the same time, it’s partly why Damn. gets overlooked and underrated by most
all his albums are incredible when it’s all said and done though so im not mad at anyone thinking other projects of his are better
Hating on TPAB looks worse every day as the album better encapsulates its subject matter over time. It was always a masterpiece, but its classic status has been cemented.
Ngl I’m not against per say the album being classic or anything
But idk where the classic songs are at
DAMN. on the other hand...
if you mean classic for a casual listeners appeal then king kunta and alright are definitely there. Ive seen him perform 3 times live and those 2 songs get some of his biggest reactions
imagine comparing that dumpster juice views to damn

Views has some good songs don't get me wrong but it's very inconsistent, just not a well put together album
some people try listening to music when they're not in the mood to hear it out. they seem to turn if off and then come to KTT to make a thread saying it "aged bad" or sum
I don’t think anyone said it wasn’t good. But it don’t really have replay value like that,
