I was listening to Taeko Onuki music and on Wikipedia she has like 16 albums, and most of them was released year after year. Then I remembered how Frank Sinatra has tons of music too.

Nowadays, people like Kanye, Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean (maybe), complain about their contracts when they can literally do nothing for years like Kendrick Lamar just chilled for four years, Frank too, Kanye pulled out his abum last year right when it was suppossed to drop.

So am I making a bullshit asuumptions or industry nowadays is not as tough to make a living in?

the people you listed are like a tier celebrities where they got complete control of their artistry at this point

a average artist signed to a label is pretty restricted

But that's exactly the point. I remember guy was forced to record some bullshit that he was ashamed of, not drawing beds for Ikea.

Not sure. Smaller artists like bryson tiller also chill for years without any hits. I doubt labels are forcing artists to make music like that

quick history lesson here for you

during the 60s competition was so fierce that if artists hadn't dropped in a year they most likely forget about you

between 65 to 67 (where competition was probably at its most fierce)

    Kinks dropped 5
    Stones dropped 9
    BB dropped 6
    dylan 4
    Yardbirds, 7
    the Temptations, 6
    Ray Charles 5
beatles 3 or 4 if you include MMT

generally the industry standard back in the 60s were four singles and two albums a year, as that was the industry standard

There are a lot of living legends that are still doing greatest hits tours bc they got screwed in record deals

Im all for artists standing up for themselves.
