Only review I see that’s actually kinda glowing is Ehrlich’s. If he loves a divisive movie, you can at least bet on it being interesting and bat s*** to some degree

Aster might be the most polarizing director of the current era. I’ll always respect that he is willing to take giant swings everytime

maybe but also hereditary and midsommar are pretty beloved. only beau is afraid and perhaps eddington are the films that could be seen as polarizing

Idk Hereditary was always loved by critics and more people have come around on it now but I remember a lot of people trashing it when it released

Tbh I think it really depends on who you ask. I’ve seen a lot of people say that they think Aster’s films are awful.

I personally think Hereditary is a modern horror classic, and one of my favorite horror films ever. But there were people who were saying it was one of the worst movies they’ve seen. For example the movie had a D+ audience cinemascore .
Appreciation has grown a lot for Hereditary overtime though, but initially there were a lot of people not f***ing with it.

Same for Midsommar, it has 63% on Rotten Tomatoes, and not everyone was f***ing with it when it released .

Both films didn’t really become more appreciated until a few years after release

I’m lucky to say I’ve seen all 3 of his films in theaters though

Every film is a very unique and memorable experience

One thing I really like about Aster’s films is that whether you love them or hate them, they will undoubtedly make you feel something . They’ll evoke a real reaction from you

People don’t walk out of his movies saying “eh, that was it?”

Even if you hate the movie, it’s still going to stick with you and stay in your head when you leave the theater

And that is what art should be
