the popular ranking will put hereditary on top but if we talking about artistic merit and real kino s***

    eddington
    midsommar
    hereditary
    beau is afraid

beau is so irredeemably regarded if i watched it when it came out i wouldn’t have watched eddington, just off the strength.

never met a movie i was offended by at till i watched that

Eddington on top and snubbing Hereditarys artistic merit is nuts

    hereditary fake ight

    s*** overrated

midsommar narratively was a step up, hereditary dropped the ball in its third act imo like really dropped the ball bad

toni’s performance carried the whole movie (all of the actors were great, but its popularity is due to toni and it being a fresh take on horror)

midsommar has a better script to me

i think he showed more of his black comedy sensibilities

he made a horror movie in complete daylight which was a phenomenon in of itself

overall i just think he did the family trauma thing better. florence pugh just was a more interesting character to follow than toni’s. i didn’t really care for the family in hereditary as people and it felt like they were in a purgatory of their own making. once the major dramatic moment happens in the first act, i’m just not as invested into the movie as midsommar

midsommar had a narrative that was paced better for me i was just more invested tbh, hereditary disappointed me.

So glad I let the poster sell me and saw zero of the trailer

Every scene with Joaquin & Pedro felt absolutely special. Their chemistry here is crazy.

Weakest part of the movie was the fact you can feel this movie got the short end of Pedro's insane filming schedule from the last 4 years. It didn't need that much more but it could've done with an additional scene or two of Pascal.

The mini gun shootout at the end you can see the recoil steadily pushing him backwards. Joe Cross not missing a step and moving with it was absolute heat. One of Joaquin's coolest scenes OAT.

this is the climax of this movie and seeing it in theaters was brilliant. the cam pan that suggests to the eye that joaquin is about to pull a gun on pedro, the framing / blocking quoting so many classic western draws…

    poetry in motion….
