The East Turkestan Independent Movement, which is the primary independence movement in the Xinjiang region, is an ISIS affiliated terrorist group that regularly bombed and killed civilians in the province

Most anti-China, pro-Uyghur-independence Americans have support for the movement, not knowing exactly what they do.

This is the same thing that the US has some time and time again in the Middle East, which is supporting fundamentalist independence movements to uproot regimes that they paint as totalitarian and oppressive, when in reality it is to destabilize the region to grow US dependencies and remove independently sufficient states

The same thing happened in Iraq, in Libya, in Yemen, and Afghanistan.
