  • I was thinking about how most of KRIT's discography had to be altered due to sampling. Is he big enough to where people would come after him for not going thru the proper channels to clear samples?

Artists like BabyTron, Curren$y, Larry June, Alchemist, Griselda, etc... I know for a fact aren't clearing samples

At what level does an artist have to worry about clearing samples? At what level do they not have to worry? Obviously being signed to major you have to follow protocol

    Just a thought I had...

If French ain't clearing samples, KRIT could get away with it too.

  • Also, sampling obscure records you could go unnoticed

French got so many samples idk how he’d be able to afford to clear. Especially if his last album was really independent no label

Krit was on a major label. All them other guys you named released the majority of their projects independent.

Madlib doesn’t clear s*** and I don’t think doom did either

With the whole anti sample snitch movement, I have a feeling it’s en vogue to not clear recently

Emperor of the Universe woulda cost Tron more than any album he’s put out to clear, I know that for a fact lol

I think it has more to do with the popularity of a particular song / album and how likely they are to gain a good payout from taking legal action

If a Griselda song with a prominent sample became a huge hit I'm sure there would be a lawsuit

but as of now it would cost more than the og artist would gain from going to court

It’s the label, labels aren’t gonna take the risk of not clearing

  • there's not an "artist threshold" just completely depends on what you're sampling, how you do it & how big the song gets
