u can look at "mysterious" as a label describing someone's position on two spectrums. first, u got how visible the artist's personal life is (how often do they do interviews? how often do they post clips of their life on socials? etc.). second, u got how the artist's music is pushed. is it getting radio spots? is it getting playlisted? are there ads for it?

ppl assume it has to do with popularity which is dumb. Frank Ocean is the textbook mysterious artist and he's one of the most famous artists of the 2010s. Carti might be massively popular and mainstream, but his personal life is still largely hidden from the public eye, and his music isn't even on streaming. Definitely a mysterious guy.
