I was gonna disagree but then I remembered his old s*** and yeah. It was looking like he was gonna be the next great
no stylist and the 2021 leak era was post opium signing tho
+ raver & exodus
GRIP that guy went from snubnose to a rappity rap album with eminem on it
guy got on shady and dropped the worst song of his life

look at the difference man

and ofc they didnt promote him
Nah fr Lone was really that nigga back then. I just forgot. It seems like most of it has been purged from YouTube
!https://youtu.be/hBcvZ-TuYbY?si=uUUjazCr81nTuPlMYea this s*** is depressing. A lot of the best undergroubd music literally dont exist anymore. Entire waves that coulda blown up jus disappeared
gelo really did not have sauce to lose
all 3 songs so far are on the same level but his career is not meant to last
the way he was getting hyped up like a serious artist legit irritated me
This absolutely was not what happened
no stylist was his last non interscope project and everything since then has been mid
I cant think of any modern examples.
But Wale to me was the sauciest nigga in the blog rap era before he for some reason decided to sign to Maybach Music (?)
Dude was on some retro, lyrical, go-go, Euro rap s*** before he made that move. Probably got more commercial success than he would have had he stayed a hipster but I think he shoudlve rolled with it
Im pretty sure that first album with the Lady Gaga track deterred him from continuing that path.
Album about nothing is a classic though
this is so revisionist
is it? i think there's a difference between people being like "wow this guy is famous already and made a couple pretty good songs" and "this guy is going to have a long and successful rap career and an actual fanbase"

Tbh that was him signing to interscope which is a way bigger marker
no stylist was his last non interscope project and everything since then has been mid
lick is his best project i’m afraid so… 🙊

Yea that makes sense
there are reverse examples too. wiki dropped classics exclusively when he was with xl. everything after that was cool but never hit the same
I cant think of any modern examples.

I’m in the minority and think him signing to MMG was great for him at the time or atleast the best move for exposure
Him being the outlier of the label gave him purpose and relevancy on there. One thing about Dreamville, although it’s filled with talent, is that they all are apart of the same lane thus no one really stands out within the label. With Ari gone they definitely are lacking versatility.
And as far music goes, yeah his image changed and do wonder where he would be if he hadn’t signed to MMG. But my hunch is he would’ve been forgotten in the blog era
Speakin of lone im listening to dover street market and i see why lone hates southside sil cus sil defo stole the s*** outta his whole flow and sound

I agree that he wouldve been a relic of that era for sure sort of like Charles Hamilton to an extent. But he had ALOT of range compared to the rest of that Class. This is why he was on the front page of the Freshmen Cover and they even had Wale, Drake and Cudi marketed as the next big things before Kendrick and Cole came.
