Anderson .Paak is the best example that comes to mind for me personally, of course he's awesome, been a fan since I first heard his features on Compton, but it's undeniable that he's gotten a crazy huge push that his raw popularity would not have necessarily merited since Dre signed him (which, again, is good, that's the whole point of getting signed, and better him than a mediocre or trash artist)
thanks Dre!
forgot about how good that song from the apple commercial is sheesh
facts, it still gets spins TO THIS DAY
I think Paak is just finally getting the mainstream recognition he’s always deserved. His come up has been nothing but natural I’d hardly call that being shoved down our throats
Kendrick, first with Dre (which was a flop cuz no one cares about Dre anymore)
Then he was being pushed by his peers (Drake, Cole ect.)
And we got the timeless classic GKMC
Drake
kanye
jay z
kendrick lamar
j cole
sza
travis scott
yeah that's probably closest to what i'm getting at here, although I couldn't speak so much to Drake (who also came to mind immediately) because I was a lot younger and less cognizant of things like this in '09
obviously every successful artist gets a push, like @Nevada said, and I certainly think .Paak deserves all his success
what I'm talking abt is when it feels like a switch was flipped from one second to the next and then suddenly X artist who was grinding to small audiences is everywhere and on everyone's album (I swear it felt like everyone's album had a .Paak feature in the two years after Compton)

i guess it comes down to what natural is
cuz like anderson paak being on the price is right is obviously not organic, but at the same time, i'm certainly not saying anything like that he's a plant, since his long period of grinding before he got signed to Aftermath is well-documented

Personally my view has always been whatever a label does with their artist is just apart of the job. It’s when they go all out for someone who just signed or “isn’t signed” at all when people (rightfully) start looking at it funny.
The labels job is to market their artist so they can make the most money possible. Yeah it’s funny seeing Paak doing s*** like that but with someone like him who had a natural come up like you said, I can only feel happy for them, bc I know he’s got the talent to back it up
Dominic fike
has he dropped music since his album i like his debut "official" mixtape
forgot about how good that song from the apple commercial is sheesh
One of my favorite songs of the 2010s
I still wish Paak would make a whole project with that sound
it's not so much that he got a big push people legitimately wanted to work with him and everyone was listening to him
