It really is a skill to actually get popular off the quality of the music you make. If anything its so reversed now to where you have to already have an established fanbase in another medium to even get any attention to your music. This is strictly about people who started making music prior to being widely know tho. So many people have exploited the "make a song for some money" fad without actually wanting to be an artist predominately.

Selena is like the perfect edge case because she basically started acting and making music at the same time even though she moved to being primarily an artist she def would have never gotten enough attention on her music if she wasn't a child star

I'm saying thread mainly focused on people who were making music prior to fame. Not people taking advantage of their platform by getting into music. Like Joji and Lil Nas X were both making music on the side to their main stuff that they were getting popular for, most these youtube artists never picked up a mic until they already had a large platform
