    Smacked Voodoo

When it comes to music, at every turn Gambino has almost "sabotaged" himself since...honestly post STN MTN/Kauai. I say "sabotage" because he actively made decisions to not make music videos for his popular songs or promo them.

Like there were no music videos made for Me & Your Mama, Redbone, Terrified, or Riot despite those songs being bangers and major crowd pleasers when performed live off Awaken My Love.

Guava Island was seen as a fun lil movie and he never put out the soundtrack for it despite it having songs people loved on it like Die With You and of course Saturday. There were also very popular songs in the leak community such as Love Bug and Nightlight that never saw the light of day. Summertime Magic is the only track that made it off Guava Island. As cool as that track is, can imagine how well an album or EP with Saturday, Summertime Magic, Love Bug, Nightlife, and Die With You would've gone over with people?

He finally decides to drop a single and music video and it's for This Is America. I don't care to get into the discussion of whether the song is good or not without the music video I really don't give a f***. But the reality is, the song/video was a moment that he didn't take advantage of at all. Sure it got Grammy noms and awards, was a No. 1 Billboard song, and is 3x platinum but that was it. No project or anything following it. Unless you wanna consider it apart of Guava Island, but again...wasn't no soundtrack or EP released for it.

Then there's 3.15.20...there was actually some build up for this project. A countdown, potential album artwork, I guess you can consider Feels Like Summer as a single for the album. The Pharos shows, his Coachella performance, the This Is America tour, Guava Island, all this seemed like the build up for this project...all this from 2017-2019...and nothing. Pandemic hits, he drops a lil sketch of potential album artwork, then drops the album randomly with no album artwork, no track titles, and many songs that people thought were finally going to be released like: Warlords, Human Sacrifice, Die With You, Saturday, Love Bug, Nightlight, etc are nowhere to be found on the album. And once again, no music videos, no promotion, s*** not even acknowledgement from Gambino himself. And it's a damn shame because 3.15.20 is actually a great f***in album even with fan favorite tracks missing from it

There was a point when Gambino really could've taken over after the success of Awaken My Life, Atlanta, all his touring and film appearances. But he intentionally chose to scrap a lot of s***. Now could that have been because a lot of things with him changed with his father passing, becoming a dad, him diving more into television and film, and the pandemic? I don't doubt it. But it's crazy man...never seen an artist throw away being a global music superstar like him when he had it in the palm of his hands.

I'm sure if he were to announce an album in the near feature, do a regular album rollout with videos, interviews, media runs, a tour, etc it'd perform very well and like he hasn't skipped a beat with this music s*** making his inclusion in OP's post even dumber. But I just highly doubt he's gonna do that.

This is an interesting point I hadn't considered before

Childish Gambino shouldnt belong in this only cause I think musically he's always been just derivative, BTI expection of course but the other 2 yea I agree.

BTI hype was mostly non music related, rememer KTT usedd to hype it because the script or w.e

Yeah ofc there's some eye popping factors surrounding the era, but saying that music wasn't a factor is complete bullshit.

Like bro 3005 was already catching a lot of love when it released.

Mfs write essays about Glover while he’s performing an Illuminati ritual gangbang with 5 white chicks in his Hollywood mansion. Sad!

I find it hilarious when niggas say that nobody checks for Donald anymore or he wasn't that good in the first place, because if that was the case, we wouldn't be still talking about BTI and AML many years later.

If Donald actually tried to make a perfect rollout like he did with BTI.

He would be selling a whole lot more than he should be.

Plus the nigga had a sold out arena tour a few years ago as well.

But for some odd ass reason, nobody checking for him

If Donald actual stuck with his original rollout for the album that ended up becoming 3.15.20...I mean everything from: This Is America, Guava Island, Pharos, his Adidas collab, his Coachella performance and included tracks like: Nightlife, Saturday, Human Sacrifice, Lovebug Warlords, along with the tracks that were on 3.15.20...we'd probably be looking at that album as if it were an instant classic as soon as it dropped.

Like dude, all this could've used a proper rollout and 3.15.20 could've been selling like hot cakes

Plus how tf BTI is not platinum by now

the lack of titles is such a travesty. like why??

BTI was hot largely because non-music related factor, the music itself wasn't good man stop

Well it's a good thing the project also had other great tracks on it along with 3005 like: Worldstar, Shadows, Urn, The Worst Guys, Pink Toes, Flight of the Navigator, Sweatpants, and Telegraph Ave that are also still popular to this day almost ten years later.

Blud you aint heard one person talk about none of those songs since it released stop it

  • If you still hating on BTI ten years later despite many of its songs still getting play and the album as a whole being viewed as a classic of the 2010s you really are just the lamest kinda hater who cannot accept being objectively wrong.

    Let that hate go lol

Meek was never dope he just some how made it past the XXL curse. He has zero artistry in his blood. He just jumped off the porch and got lucky 🍀

Rocky mixtape legend but ever since yams died he’s been putting out garbage. Sad story not his fault tbh…

Childish gambino album secretly dropped and no one cared. Who’s setting the tone? Def ain’t me. Nigga is booty juice ha!

Agree 100% with what you said about Meek
