Hey, man. As an Asian American, I've definitely seen the racial tension between our communities first-hand for myself. I'm glad you brought up this discussion because it's something we need to talk about instead of sweeping it under the rug.

The reason there's any prejudice from Asians towards black people in the first place is white propaganda. Whites made us want to hate each other for their own good, especially with the model minority myth and everything. Factor that into how a lot of Asian immigrant families don't start off in the best neighborhoods when they first immigrate to the United States. They set up businesses in these areas because these are the areas they live in. Due to systematic oppression of black people, these neighborhoods are predominantly black, so they see the crimes and decide for themselves the stereotypes created by white people are true.

They start adopting prejudiced and racist attitudes towards black people, so black people think Asians are just like whites. Blacks start being hateful towards Asians, so Asians think blacks are racist against them. The cycle continues to this day.

I hope you got what I'm trying to say here. I feel like a lot of the tension between our communities is caused by misunderstanding and miscommunication on both sides. Especially with the language barrier, our black and Asian parents weren't able to voice out their concerns.

Unfortunately, they instilled some prejudice into their kids as well, so while they were taught about fairness and equality in school, they still had some prejudice going on due to what their parents told them. This is true for both blacks and Asians, but definitely more true for the Asian kids.

Just wanted to know I got your back, bro. It's sickening to see so much hatred, but change starts with a conversation. Thanks for bringing this up.

Yes I am reading about it now apparently in the roman emperor race was considered just another physical characteristic like height or hair colour, the concept of 'race' was probably introduced when the slave trade started

Yup yup. Renaissance Era is when the concept of race and colorism happened. Black and White are legal classes, not a race.

It was about one's tribe and culture they pertained to, not color.

Because everybody benefits off of having a common punching bag. POC solidarity doesn't exist for this very reason. Many people need somebody to look down on to feel better about themselves, and they often aren't even aware of this. That's how the hierarchy in racism is set up. You're mexican/asian? Well at least you're not black, type of mentality is profitable. As long as there is someone beneath you you will always have something to pride yourself in, and profit off of it. People struggle to admit this though because they're directly benefitting of such a mentality, and adressing it threatens the illusion. As long as black people believe in POC solidarity they'll fight other people's battles as well, while the efforts stay one sided. It's a win-win situation for non black POC.

Saying it's a win for non black POC is disrespectful. Asian Americans has been treated like a monolith, and historically been used as a tool by white people.

The model minority myth is often used as a cudgel against other poc. The MMM is a specific construct emerging in mid-60’s against the backdrop of Jim Crow dismantlement & Black people’s growing demands for political equity.
During this period, rather than addressing these demands thru structural changes or social reorg, the Johnson administration released a report which essentially blamed Black poverty on dysfunctional families and asserted it as inherent to Black culture itself.
Simultaneously, Asian-Americans were juxtaposed as a group of immigrants who self-sufficiently moved ahead w/o outside help, self-disciplined, hard-working, submissive. a racial minority that could seamlessly assimilate without making demands for institutional change.
Within this Cold War context, the model minority embodied the Protestant work ethic of obedience, individualism, and loyalty to the nuclear family. as opposed to international solidarity or social consciousness as advocated by Black radicalism.
That’s how that model minority construct and the Asian-American desire for assimilation operates and continues to operate in the service of white supremacy, even to this day.

One of the most detrimental effects of the model minority myth is that it treats all Asians in the US as a monolith, rendering invisible those that don't fit the narrative. In NYC, for ex, AsAms suffer from the highest poverty rate of any racial group

That's not what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to explain the root cause of all of this.

Of course in our time and generation, we should be working on fixing this mess. A lot of it is on us, especially since we have access to non-biased history and facts.

I do think Asians and blacks in America in our age group should be having a discussion about this. There's no excuse not to since there's no language barrier anymore.

People would just find something else to discriminate. An example is light skin vs dark skin within black communities. Or how the Irish or Jewish people were treated within their own white community.

Sadly, human beings just have a tendency to create groups of superiority for their own precious egos. S*** like this will never end unfortunately. Prejudice is in our nature.

Overall this isn't about racism. This is about rulership and classes and status'.

Jewish ppl have a strong culture. Every nationality has a land they can call their own. This land has an established culture where they set up their presidents, tell their own history, architect their own cities, create their own laws, build up their own businesses etc etc.

Jewish people the right to say whats offensive to them, and have the power to shut things down.

Black people simply don't have this. Everyone can say nigga and get away with it. There's no respect within our own society.

Indigenous Americans don't have this as well. Not a coincidence either, happy thanksgiving.

Until we build up our societies and develop our own wealth, so called racism will still plague us.
