I'd probably pin it on 2016

By 2015 Drake's catalog was on par with Kanye's and the only thing missing was having a bigger album release than him. The hype for all of Drake's work prior to 2016 was very popular but wasn't LR/Grad level popular...until Views dropped and became galactically more popular than LR/Grad upon release. Even Take Care took time to blow up the way it did, but Views out of the gate was just a monster and in many ways reshaped the sound of hip hop, for better or worse.

Drake has left an overall bigger impact on hip hop than Kanye

Take Care/NWTS/Views/Scorpion are considerably bigger than anything Ye has dropped and TC/NWTS are certified classics. Of course Ye has classics but talk to me when he's got a Diamond album, which Drizzy is probably on track to getting 3 of at least

When Kanye dropped Yeezus and Drake dropped Nothing Was The Same.

He lost his spot as the leading pop rapper by that point and Drake swooped in like clockwork

    Yep, pretty smooth transition.

    Commercially and popularity wise? Views.

But he was already leading Kanye in sales by the time Take Care dropped. Views cemented it.

    Yep, pretty smooth transition.

It was consolidated by 2016 with Views

You look at Views and TLOP and while I enjoyed TLOP more, Views was massively more popular and was still fundamentally good even if stans overrate it. TLOP's entire rollout was a mess and didn't make anywhere near the level of impact that Views did

Drake's run from Scorpion onwards also kept him progressing, since most of the top artists atm slowed down releasing music.

Travis, Cole, Kendrick, Carti and Kanye all pretty much took breaks while Drake released like 4-5 new albums.

Also Her Loss is better than anything any of those artists have dropped in the 2020s aside from Kendrick and Trav
