Like melodies and such. It's like there's a finite amount. But you can always put your own flavor on it. I see originality overrated to an extent? We are all individuals so it's comes with our own spin if we're being authentic, which many artists are

    same s*** with a twist

If we’re at the point where a guy makes an algorithm to create every melody possible in order to prevent lawsuits then we’re just about there

Law suits in music are stupid and shouldn’t exist unless it’s literally copying a song imo

blame the douchebag musicians in the late 80s who hated rap and wanted every dime of what these artists made because they were creative enough to turn it into their own thing

People who own estates / agents / assistants really. Artists dont give a s*** 90% of the time

  • Apr 27, 2020

granted artists were essentially stealing material and flipping profit but a 25% cut should be sufficient enough

Trap drums gotta die or something else gotta take over for a minute

Niggas flows and cadences are locked into trap beat mode and that trickles down to everything else

Theres a difference between asking for something unrealistic and looking for individuality. There is a thousand street rappers who autotune over trap beats with shallow struggle stories. There is a thousand emo pop rock bands with ambiguous sexual orientation and episodic story telling in their songs.

But I can only name a few who have the charisma of TLE Cinco on the beat, or have the range of Paramore.

Thats because these acts stand out in some way or some form, they might not be the most original, but they add their own twist to it or do it better than a lot of their competition. Even someone as boring and safe as Lil Mosey stands out above his competition because of his vocal melodies.

The thing is when genre is as over saturated as late 2000s Emo or 2010s Trap, possibilities to stand out become fewer and people resort to gimmicks.

We are right now in that Era, full of copycats and one hit wonder gimmicks - until the next wave comes on.

S*** is even seeping into pop. A lot of pop records be using the same 808 hi hat and snare patterns these days.

I always wonder who’s a “creative” and who’s just a fan in these type of threads

  • Apr 27, 2020

Well when there is originality dumb asses complain about it being mysterious so idk man

  • Apr 27, 2020

i don't have time for retreads unless they're taking a style everybody forgot about and putting a new spin on it. i think the best thing to do is to steal a style and put your own spin on it.

but if you steal a style and don't alter it at all, or put your own mark on it, like creatively change it up and share a fresh perspective on life, i don't have time. i can listen to the original.
