I don’t think theatres die completely but they all will definitely pivot to a “restaurant/bar + a show” type establishments just to get people to show up

Even that still needs to be figured out.

Alamo Drafthouse does the dining thing but has struggled financially in recent years and was recently bought by Sony. Verdicts still out on how well changes are working but there's been some notable rough patches i've seen

    I do agree generally though

It’s my opinion, lol. It’s not about a right or wrong, I’m seeing it how I see it

It’s fair it’s your opinion and I don’t think it’s right or wrong necessarily. It’s just the future of all art has to address preservation , greedy CEOs and ai. Will this lead to more or better art being created when they are focused on share holder value ? It’s fair for people to say no .

It’s fair for people to be disenchanted . I respect your optimism

Same way yes Microsoft buying activision leads to more momentary value for game pass but then look at studio closures and game cancellations

Does Netflix have the bandwidth to properly handle all those art forms across multiple mediums ? Is consolidation bad in the long run

IMAX should make a commitment to build more theaters. I think if anything that could extend the lifeline for theatrical a bit

PLFs might be the only way theaters survive atp

lol they should have been made more when I was growing up imax made it undeniably worth the trip . Liemax and poor theater experiences have pushed people towards streaming

For sure, but that could be an economic situation as well, people are pretty broke

I do think it has potential if done right, restaurants as a whole burn money at this point so it’s gotta be tough , but it’s definitely something my wife and I love to do for a movie date, especially at Alamo, the food is good imo

I also go to a place called iPIC, they have blankets and s*** I think the cozy vibe is dope

Netflix got the worst of all time "blockbusters".

Red Notice, Six Underground, Gray Man, Electric State. pure slop.

now they got the cheat code with all this WB IP

Not to mention all the identical mark wahlberg movies

    Slop is the perfect word

  • Dec 5, 2025

Im just crine at this being typical WB. Of course they get sold off after their best year at the box office in years

To be fair it looked cooked whether this happened or not

True, fewer and fewer movies manage to turn a profit (due to general public being more into streaming Netflix at home ever since Covid era)

Kinda wild that HBO Max is just not going to exist in a couple years. Alll of that content is just going to get absorbed in to the Netflix app

Only potential silver lining is maybe bigger budget for hbo shows (longer seasons, less putting off major expensive battle scenes ala house of dragons) 🤞

Wb had a good year for sinners weapons and smaller films flipping profit but they kind of bank on booms. I think they expected Superman to do a billi honestly

This doesn't answer my question, since Warren is an outlier, not the norm when it comes to current Congress members; they don't give a single f*** about consumers or whatever other long term impacts this acquisition may have. It's total cope to believe that there's a "high chance" they'll block this.

Prices, the economy and lack of incentivizing a growing theater attendance due to films that don’t warrant the theater experience all make people not want to go to theaters. That directly benefits the next best option in streaming

I don’t think it stems from people preferring streaming on a damn tv or phone to a big theater screen, that’s simply an end result

    They definitely did
Still considering the past few years this was a banner year for them, reaks of “featuring a player so they get stats to drive up their trade value”
