• The company is focusing on “fully embracing the theatrical” experience. They want all films to be theatrical only, meaning they will not make movies for streaming or straight to paid on demand.
• WB plan on merging HBO Max and Discovery+ in 2023. Despite reports, they won’t reveal details until later this year. The new service will use the tech used for Discovery+.
• Exploring cresting a free ad-supported streaming service, separate to the merged HBO and Discovery service, which would be more similar to Pluto TV.
• The new merger HBO Max and Disc+ service will be released in the US in the Summer of 2023. The service will roll out to Latin America in Fall 23, Europe in early 2024 (excluding U.K.), and new markets in Fall 2024. They forecast the new service will have 130M subs by early 2025.
Kind of bummed about the theatrical only but I get it. I always go to the theater first anyways if it’s on both. Some hbo max movies I liked though.
